The crew encounters a massive ghost ship — Thriller Bark, the world's largest pirate ship, commanded by Gecko Moria, a Warlord who uses the Kage Kage no Mi to steal shadows. Without their shadows, the crew would burn in sunlight. The arc introduces Brook — a living skeleton and musician who has been alone on a ghost ship for 50 years, kept alive by the Yomi Yomi no Mi. He carries a Tone Dial with the last recording of his deceased crew's final song, waiting to return to Laboon. The climax features the legendary moment where Bartholomew Kuma, a Warlord and Pacifista, tests Zoro: to save Luffy, Zoro absorbs all of Luffy's accumulated pain and damage. When asked what happened, Zoro simply says: 'Nothing happened.'
