You know those manga where the lead female considers herself plain or ugly, but that really isn't the case? Or where she undergoes some transformation that makes her into a great beauty? That doesn't happen in this manga. Kawai is scary. She just is. And that's okay! This short series is endearing because you get to watch an unfashionable but kind-hearted woman fall in love for the first time. But hey, this is shoujo, so if the girl can't be pretty then you can bet that the male lead is going to be super handsome--yay Hosaka! This series also explores the parallels inrelationships between adults and between children, as conflicts in the nursery where Kawai and Hosaka work teach principles that help them move along in their own budding romance. Cute, quick, and funny--highly recommend reading it!
Finally realizing her dream of becoming a nursery school teacher, Karen Kawai has a tiny problem—she has the ultimate villain-face. At a glimpse of her appearance, the little students spill tears and run away. While Karen praises the coroner-turned-nursery teacher Taihei Hosaka for his capability and physical attractiveness, he instead reprimands her failure in acclimating with the class. According to him, it is not a matter of her face but because she does not converse enough with the children. As Karen slowly learns how to have a proper conversation, Hosaka suddenly proposes to her. Surely he can't be serious! [Written by MAL Rewrite]
I don't quite get why this one is so unpopular. It's such a beautiful and heartwarming story. It's short, and it starts out a bit weird with Hosaka basically being emotionless, but it's totally worth it. The story doesn't need any forced drama between them, or those unrealistic situations of one love rival after another being thrown at the main couple. In this manga, you accompany Kawai, a scary looking woman, and Hosaka, a very rational and more or less emotionless man. They both work as nursery teachers and start dating pretty early on. Needless to say, those two teachers with very different personalities allow this mangato show interesting interactions with the children and show different ways to explain things to them. I feel that especially those dialogues to the children were really well done, and were really fitting to their personalities. After a timeskip in the final chapter you get to see the children after graduating highschool, visiting Hosaka and Kawai, telling them about their future plans/dreams and thanking them for what they did. Especially since Kawai was the type of person who pours her whole heart into her job as nursery teacher, I found this moment really heartwarming.
