It’s worth reading it even though the author has passed away causing Highschool of the Dead to be discontinued. We will never get a true ending, but what was left here is a true gem. The fact is, I’m sad but not frustrated that it’s over. There are no great mysteries left to be solved. This manga has a BEAUTIFUL full-color version from Yen Press that you should look for if you are considering reading Highschool of the Dead. I got the digital version, it was quite amazing. For those of you who are about to experience that edition for the 1st time: I envy you.
It starts off as a standard zombie story, but very quickly the story pans out dependant on the personality of the characters. It is also unique through it seemingly starting off near a school, and the main cast all being in education in some way or another (Marikawa-sensei is in training). The art is not particularly unique in an of itself, but you can still feel the passion and love that went into it. It truly is a shame that we will not be able to see it again. Rest in Peace, Daisuke Satō. Alice Maresato - Alice is a young girl who's father was killed whiletrying to take her somewhere safe and was saved by Takashi. Kouta Hirano - Kouta is a second-year student and is knowledgable in all things firearms and weaponry. Rei Miyamoto - Rei is a member of the Sojutsu club and Takashi's childhood friend. Saeko Busujima - Saeko is the captain of the Kendo club and an expert swordswoman. Saya Takagi - Saya is a genius with expansive knowledge and amazing deductive capabilities, as well as coming from a very prestigious family. Shizuka Marikawa - The school nurse and the groups medical expert. Takashi Komuro - The founder and leader of the group.
On a normal day, mindless, flesh-eating zombies suddenly appear and send society into anarchy. In Fujimi Academy, second-year high school student Takashi Komuro witnesses these beasts' murderous nature firsthand. He flees to the roof with friends Rei Miyamoto and Hisashi Igou, only to discover the harrowing reality of their zombie-overrun world. In High School of the Dead, Takashi and Rei must now rely on a band of eccentric individuals composed of: Saeko Busujima, the kendo club president; Saya Takagi, a wealthy genius; Shizuka Marikawa, their voluptuous school nurse; and Kouta Hirano, a firearm-obsessed otaku. Together they must defy all odds and survive against the horrifying undead. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
A sleigh ride from start to finish, although it was unfortunately quite abrupt. If you like tits, action, action and tits, and tits with action then you've come to the right place my friend. Oh, and their are also guns. Copious amounts of guns with excruciating detail. What's that? You like plot in your zombie ecchi bloodbath shoot em up? What are you, some kind of nerd or something? Jokes aside, the manga expands upon some of more lackluster areas of the anime, and while I won't go so far as to say it fixed some of my major problems with it, what I love about itwas stronger in the manga and what I disliked was lessened. Story 7/10: Eh, it's just The Walking Dead hopped up on ketamine. The edges are trimmed down, and anything perceived to be even the slightest threat to the target audiences limited comprehensive abilities is disposed of and set on fire in a glorious fashion. Art: 10/10 It's fucking awesome, for being an manga drawn by people that clearly specialize in hentai the art here is still fantastic. You can feel the painstaking passion put into the attention to detail of the firearms and all weapons present in the manga. Was going to give this a 9, but at the end of every volume they have a ridiculous amount of pinups and bonus art of the guns and characters that ties everything off with a bow. Character 7/10: A chain is as strong as it's weakest link, but the manga pulls itself up by the bootstraps a lot better than the anime did. They start out as blatant stereotypes, but SOME of them ultimately grow and change with the world around them and it's genuinely really satisfying to see. Takashi, our MC, is an alright dude that's not annoying, doesn't act retarded, and moves the plot forward while maintaining a good dynamic with the rest of the cast. Not the main focus of the show, but there are times when it works. And when it works, it works really really well. Enjoyment 10/10: I could not put this down. It's constant action and consistent quality, but always moving the plot forward at a pace and in a direction that keeps me begging to know what happens next. Overall 8/10: I enjoyed this manga and I'm not ashamed to admit it, but objectively speaking I could never give it any higher than an 8 for it's hit hard or miss hard cast and the tragic indefinite hiatus. Watch this if you love action, stay far away from it if you loath fanservice. Either way, I know what I like, and I know that I fucking love HOTD.
