A short manhwa that focus on loss of love and getting over. While the previous tagline sounds very clichΓ©d, the script took a creative approach on the subject of loss and a very interesting one indeed. Think of this manhwa as a source of inspiration rather than story. I only think this should have been released as a One-shot rather than 7 chapters since there is no big story really. However, if you are into tragedy and looking for something out of ordinary, don't miss this!
Short Version: Read it. But guaranteed it's probably going to make you wanna cry. Not lemme elaborate: Story: 10 This is because it's so amazing. The feelings it evokes- specifically the last couple of chapters. NO. It's too much. But not really too much. Because wow. Art: 10 It's got beautiful art. No question. Character:9 Not perfect because of one thing. The main character not being able to do one little thing. A simple function for most humans. But yeah. Other than that, decent characters.Enjoyment: 8 Mostly because of that one character flaw and the fact that it ALWAYS MAKES ME FUCKING CRY. So yeah. Overall that makes a 9. So READ IT.
Yuan Ge, a director at an advertising firm, is interrupted in the midst of a meeting with the news that his long-estranged wife has passed away. He barely finds time to grieve for her, a woman he had long since ceased to love. Several days later, he is struck by the vision of a young girl on a subway bus, but she disappears the minute he looks away. This is a story of lost love, and of one man's personal journey. While reading this εβ’ζ« ONCE AGAIN (The beginning, The end, ONCE AGAIN) I wondered why there was so much Japanese cultural influence, then after further research, it turned out that the work scripted by Fengxi Shenlei (ι£ζ―η₯ζ³ͺ), was serialized in Tianman which is a Chinese magazine related to Kadokawa. The work participated in the 6th "International Manga Award" held by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and can be read in half an hour. The writer Fengxi Shenlei has also written the script for a moderately successful film (also disclosed in the Japanese market) entitled The Legend of Hei, therefore perhaps not with a very famouspedigree but an author who has his own curriculum. Yigan Lin's (εδΈε‘) character design is totally forgettable, there is nothing that excels. I was talking about Japanese influences because the work itself uses Japanese terms (kohai, senpai) and musical cultural references to Japan and I think this was done as part of the competition in order to be relatable to the judges. The plot sees Yuan Ge receive the news of his wife's death during an important meeting, which he welcomes with an absolute lack of emotion. The character is described to us very well in his total lack of empathy. In fact, the supporting characters have no faces but only "labels" related to their role in the company or to the eyes of Yuan Ge. We pass from the General Manager without a face but only with the writing "GM", to the petulant colleague "Petulant colleague and talkative" is his label and so on with the various "diligent subordinate", "ass kisser", etc. etc. In this suffocation of labels and names, he sees a high school girl every day, distinguishing her face and from that moment on, a love for this unknown girl is born in him. The ethical sense of the character who questions his sanity and carries out a confidential psychological test to understand if he has paedophilic inclinations is very well constructed. I found that section of the Manhua very well thought out (typically the age gap in anime is always handled in a very creepy way). Our Yuan Ge, on the other hand, understands that having an attraction for someone half his age is both an ethical problem and also a dangerous emotional alarm and for this, well, he gets checked. The work is not an inseparable cornerstone of the comic narrative but gives brief indications of what must be the priorities of life and the sense of accomplishment of what has been let go and lost. This a theme that is certainly dear to the Chinese who let's not forget, live in a communist republic that embraces capitalism, a significant oxymoron. "Once again" is a simple tale of memory and love, that's all.
This is a manhua that is gonna hit you hard from inside. [Have you ever wondered how and why people fall in love?] Not that relatable but relatable hard. I enjoyed every page. And the ending was..... Especially how the writer actually highlighted the main theme was wonderful. The story is really efficient in terms of feeling. Since the story is quite short, you enter into the story really quickly and the makes the story really condensed in terms of feelings. It is well-written and even if I first thought that the main character was quite weird. Characters are quite well written, even if the whole story is based onYuan Ge. At first, I thought he was quite weird, but after thinking about it, it also permits me to give a little critic of society, about the difficulties of having both professional and public life. Just gonna leave by saying, give it a try, that's all.
10/10. This one was short but it always gives me a gut punch every time I read it despite knowing the twist at the end. I think sometimes stories don't need to be complicated or lengthy to be masterpieces. The main character is not likable but I believe this is very much intentional. The story is about him coming to terms with his past behavior and the subsequent regret he must live with after his realization. The art and paneling lended themselves to creating a very immersive feeling. I thought the pacing was also beautifully done. Everything was high quality from beginning to end. Thisstory has depth and very much embodies the "show, don't tell" philosophy. I would highly recommend this manhua to anyone.
