This is a time loop manga. The protagonist (Ichijou) is given a second chance to go back to high school to evade the wrath of his best friend, who strangles him to death in adulthood. Reason for murder? Well, Ichijou is quite the womanizer while the best friend is still a virgin. So what must the he do to escape murder? To not lose his virginity, of course! This setting seems really stupid at first. However, as the story progresses, you will feel that there is something more, something deeper to the meaning behind why the protagonist was given a second chance. And you will(morbidly) enjoy the ride as Ichijou tries to escape his fate. You will see the Butterfly Effect in action. Even the smallest thing that Ichijou does differently on the second time around have great impact on his future. Most of the manga involves the typical teen romance and all-sunshine high school life. It's just that the threat of future murder is always looming behind in the protagonist's mind. But at the end, the story ties up neatly and you will understand the greater reason behind the time loop. The pivotal moment of the manga is in the last two chapters, so don't read them quickly like I did. I had to read them twice to understand the ending. The character development is a bit weak, however. In my eyes, all the characters belong to certain moe or stock characters with exception of the main character: Blonde, outgoing girl and big breasted, black-haired, shy girl with glasses who already likes the main guy. The two main heroines of this work seemed like they were lifted straight from Strawberry 100%. It's probably an homage. Ichigo 100%, by the way, is the greatest high school romance/harem manga ever. Anyways, but this weakness of characters is ok because the identity of this work is not pivotal on the character development. It is the plot that makes this manga shine. Overall, this manga has a gripping, driving story that will nail you to your seats. I finished this in one sitting, leaving me wanting an epilogue. The overall 7 is because I am a pretty harsh critic. This manga is good.
Ichijou Kazuya thought that he was murdered, but when he came to, he was back in his high school days. He lived his entire life as a playboy and had had countless sexual encounters with women until that fateful day that he was killed. He realizes that his murderer was his old high school friend Tanaka Masaki who was jealous of Kazuya’s relationships and his built up anger eventually exploded. Taken back 15 years into his past, it seems that he has been given a second chance at life and given a chance to make different choices. He decides that the way to prevent his eventual demise is to make sure Masaki is more successful with girls and loses his virginity before Kazuya. But fate seems to be steering Kazuya towards the path of his previous life and keeps introducing the same girls he had sexual encounters with. (Source: MangaHelpers)
Honestly, read this if you want to be dissapointed. The first few chapters of the manga are pretty damn good and it seems like the story will build up into something amazing. But as the story progresses, the quality just declines until nothing is left. Almost every chapter ends on a point where it's like - "Ho something big is about to happen" and in the next chapter it turns into some sort of bullshit. After writing all kind of stupidity, the mangaka decides - This is not enough. Need to add some other sort of shit in here. And thus the ultimate bullshit endingis produced. All the relationship, character development up to that point are thrown in the bin and Japanese love for blonde girls bloom. The ending is so bad, I regret reading the manga. The mangaka used all the permutation-combination and somehow ended with the most predictable and stupid end possible. When a mystery manga becomes predictable to this extent, you know it's no use reading it. All in all it was not a good manga. The art is great and so are the first few chapters but everything after that is just.... Dissapointing.
Now before you start reading, when I decided to read this. I thought it would be another shitty harem wherein he it's easy for the mc but it was not. It was actually a thrill seeking experience with twists, turns, decisions and suspense. The art was ok but for a manga we focus on the story and characters. The story is filled with mystery regarding the death of the protagonist, and now he goes into a time slip to save himself from the future of his best friend killing him and possibly change it. The last part kept me on the edge of my seat andI really enjoyed it. The characters were developed really slowly. The protagonist was a scumbag but then you realize because of his mistakes he became like this and I like how he redeems himself but others. His best friend was a bit annoying for me but at least you could understand his motive for committing the crime. My favourite girl character was Yoshino because I really felt bad for her because of the fucking things that happened to her. She was only high school man! The other girl was ok for me although I liked it when she was with the best friend in the end. In the end, this manga is definitely a must read if you are sick of the fucking shitty harems. I hope you will enjoy it when you read it!
this is a science fiction manga, but it still making us think that wishing this kind of thing can happen to us, change our past because we're messed up now. when we look very closely, in a first place, Ichijou was a selfish person. he's afraid about all the things he had done in the future because he'll get killed. and his priority is just to do things in a right way in order to not get killed. but along the way, he know that, if not for the power that bring him to his past, he would've never feel all of this experience he never hadin his highschool live. everyone around him change, and he's changing too, and that's what matter. but no matter he can change it, doesnt mean everything will change, indeed there will be consequences, but the feeling of joy, redemption, and happiness that he''ll never had before will bring so much better for him and everyone around him, Ichijou would never hold any regret. i'd really enjoy this manga. it doesnt difficult to understand because all the narration inside Ichijou's head will sort things out without making us the reader thinking too hard. and it's short, the story didnt waste too much chapter to get things straight, but it's still pretty easy to understand with just 22 chapters. 10/10 would reccomend to friends and family.
Erased but better. Ore Ga Doutei wo sutetara shinu ken ni Tsuite is similar to Erased in both premise plot and execution. When the main character at 40 years of age dies to his old high school friend, he resets back to his high school days, where he tries to piece together exactly how he died and what lead up to it. While a lighthearted story near the beginning chapters the story defiantly starts to get deeper and breaks past the almost childish and simple but intriguing story that erased told, creating such a deeper narrative and characters. Exploring both the main characters future and presentthe story quickly changes from a story only about his friend, but about the main character, and 2 others. The plot while simple and possibly cliché when first hearing it, is nothing but a vessel to develop characters, and create the narrative so that all the events could happen as they do. Truly a psychologically based manga, it takes a different approach from others. Instead of creating a psycho, sociopath, or some killer with deep rooted motivations, it brings possibly the most human, and realistically mature characters in the future, ones who have been through so much and see the world in a dark light, juxtaposed with their bright and cheerful interactions as high schoolers. Switching seamlessly between slice of life and seinin, the story’s concept while bringing almost nothing to the table sets up for some amazing characters. The main character isn’t the best character I’ve seen by a long shot, but his past, or I should say future self, is so grim, so real, and the conversations so deep, that his few shortcomings are quickly forgiven with the creation of such a layered deep and mature character. Revealed in quite convenient chunks, the future character nonetheless and his interactions with his classmates, are full of solitude, unrest, and loneliness, as he wallows not only in guilt, past regrets, and a life that is exceedingly dull, but the struggles of living. The Female lead is also such a real and resounding character as often in these future “flashbacks” as she is the one who questions his methods, his morals, agreeing and disagreeing, bringing her unique lens, and also covered in a pit of solitude and guilt. The story isn’t a murder mystery, and isn’t nearly as driven as Erased, flowing naturally, and smoothly never too slow, but at times quite fast. Time isn’t accentuated a lot in the manga(despite time travel a large part), more small simple interactions aimed to change the future at the forefront, so to fix cracks and repair relationships at the focus of attention. The mysteries at the beginning were quite dull, and the danger at times did feel quite plain, but the story did its job in keeping a semi-interesting plot and story. It gets better near the end but never gets amazing, the characters and backstories really the point of focus. It’s a short read, the art is quite good, and all round good. Definitely worth the read.
