Drop

If it's been a while since you last read a furyo, I think that getting back to business with a little manga drawn by one of the great contributors or even the father of the genre himself, Hiroshi Takahashi, is a good idea. Furyo is a niche genre but it speaks to me a lot. I find there themes that I appreciate approached from another point of view. I think in particular of solidarity. Good pick with Drop because it was really pleasant to read! First of all, what is a pity with this manga is that it is really very very anchored in thefuryo style, maybe even too much in the stereotype. It has all the biggest markers, and the only originality comes from the main character. This character brings freshness to a classic scum story thanks to his character and the way the authors use him in the story. This gives hilarious passages and very pleasant to read. Drop shines by its humor and its cast of main characters rather nice. After that, as I said, the big weakness of Drop in my opinion is that it is really too classic. There is nothing surprising in the scenario. The story is very linear so you can anticipate the events very easily. The secondary characters, except some of them, are not that interesting and it's sad that they are not "developed" in the main story, when we know that many spin-offs turn around the universe of Drop, as it's the case for example of Out. To sum up, I think that Out is a very nice manga, full of humor and good mood, but a bit too classic to surprise the big fans of the genre. It will remain nevertheless a good entertainment if you want to read a furyo to relax or even to discover the style.
