I didn't expect much when I first picked up this story, but its dedication to fantasy elements and aesthetics charmed me rather quickly. The author chose a style and world to stick with, and they lean into it excellently. What captivated me enough to write a review is how well this story uses 'magic sicknesses' as a digestible. nuanced approach to mental illness. While it is technically 'all in our heads', mental illnesses are entirely capable of inflicting all types of harm on ourselves and our loved ones. Truly looking at yourself and choosing to love that person is difficult, but it's the most fundamental thingwe must do. That's what this story is about.
Deep in the forest, a curious pair resides: a young girl Mira, whose affliction leads her to call forth darkness whenever she's in distress, and her physician Rei, determined to seek a cure. Each day, she works to remember the light and bring back the person she used to be. But a sudden visit from Rei's friend, who harbors an interest in Mira's illness, may be the end of their peaceful days... (Source: Yen Press)
Overall it is a story about a girl overcoming her PTSD with people and anxiety. The story is like in little isolated chapters too. The few characters felt well rounded. It was a decent read worth the read!!! 7/10 The art style is very cutesy too. You will enjoy it, story was a bit predictable tbh. I will say that if u are reading this manga, take it slow as the manga is very short. Indulge yourself in a slice of life type ish story for sure. I will say though it will take maybe 2-3 hrs to read it all the way throughbut id read it in one setting.
Okay so this is hands-down one of the best lesser-known manga in town, maybe ever, trust me on this one. The story revolves around young Mira Howley, who suffers from what appears to be a mix of GAD/SAD. It gently explores mental health themes, in a cute, fantasy world where both physical and mental issues have magical etiology and manifestations. Much like in art-therapy, the heavy topics are looked at through a symbolic lens, which allows to sympathize and perhaps better understand some feelings. Many difficult questions are dealt with, like what's the point of it all, or whether it's possible to extract virtue from suffering, itgoes quite deep but not over-the-top-ish. The inter-character dynamics are lively and engaging, it's easy to grow to love every one of them. The art is stunning: the sheer amount of detail is mind-blowing, no half-assed frames, the characters are beyond appealing, some frames will guaranteed make your jaw drop. Some artistic choices are unconventional which I guess could describe the manga overall. To sum it up, the manga's strongest virtue is it's uniqueness: it's not your generic (even if lovely) isekai/romcom/battle shounen, but something completely different.
