Plot: Nicola traveling around the demon's world is a slice of life story about a young girl named Nicola whom decided to visit the demon world out of sheer curiosity. Upon meeting a Simon, a demon of the devil clan they embark on a journey filled with many unique experiences such as; exploring the demon world, meeting many different types of demons and unveiling mysteries. Cast: Nicola and Simon are the main characters throughout the manga, however we are introduced to many unique characters as the story goes on. Each and every character have different interactions and relationship with Nicola and definitely add lot's ofdepth to the expanding demon world. Despite being "demons" the cast give off a cute and wholesome feel. You'll find yourself loving every character, no matter how much or little "screen time" [or should i say page time;) ] they get Art: What can i say, it is absolutely stunning! My best explanation is that it gives off a raw and old-school vibe. The character designs are cute and the way the world is pictured is beautiful, despite being a demonic world. Opinion: WHOLESOME. I am quite shocked to see how few people know of this manga and even fewer have read it! I don't use this term lightly but it's 100% a hidden gem. All i can say is sit or lie down in a comfortable position, put on some cute/relaxing/mischievous OST and enjoy the ride. You'll find yourself feeling nostalgic, calmed and in a great mood.
Despite the law that forbids human entry, one young witch seeks refuge in the world of demons. Upon arrival, the witch Nicola meets the traveling merchant Simon, who decides to bring her along on his journeys, despite her being a human and him being a demon. With their newfound friendship blooming, the duo take off on numerous adventures throughout the demon worldโmany of which are exciting, charming, or even somewhat perilous! But no matter what happens, Nicola always finds joy in learning more about this fantastical realm; be it by visiting fascinating places, making friends, or uncovering her own magical potential. This manga is filled with magic. The magic of life. Just like how Nicola can turn monsters in the demon world into a being filled with love, every chapter of this manga can cure a man's soul. The demon world in which Nicola stumbles into seems bizarre to ours in comparison until you realize it's actually a parallel universe with a lot in common. The monsters of this demon world aren't that different from the humans that get consumed by evil in ours. In both, people get separated by race, government get blinded by power, and greed gets the better of us to the pointthat we forget to enjoy the journey and smell the flowers. In the same way characters' negative outlooks change when faced with Nicola's purity and sheer will, the reader too is purified from evil and turned soft and gooey inside after each chapter. The story of Nicola's journey with Simon shows us how a little love can trigger a long chain of positive events for many others beyond the ones close to us. All it takes, is clarity and will to do what's right. I think this manga is a gift to the world because it shows us how simple solutions sometimes are when seen from a child's eyes. I highly recommend this manga not just for the points listed above, but also for the gorgeous unique art style, genuinely creative episodic plots, touching main storyline, lovable characters and perfect ending. I wish one day we get more of the wonderful Nicola and her friends inhabit, but for now I am forever thankful I read this. During these hard times, stories like this shine bright for those losing hope and remind us of what's important in this bleak world.
I'm not a big fantasy world fan to be completely honest, so if I were to encounter manga like "Nicola no Oyururi Makai Kikou" I wouldn't even give it a minute of my time to consider trying it. The cover on MAL page doesn't seem appealing, and stories that can remind one of the babysitting slice of life aren't my cup of tea. However, it was recommended to me via MAL Secret Santa event so I decided to try it (and I'm really glad I did). The plot isn't anything spectacular, it's a demon merchant Simon, and a human child Nicola traveling around the demon world, exploring new areas ranging from cities to dark forests all while meeting new characters every chapter. And yet despite that simple explanation and just 25 chapters of the story, the author truly managed to make the world feel alive, with every place they visited having its feel and story to tell. You'll feel like you are reading some of those old nostalgic fairy tales like "Little Red Riding Hood" or "The Three Little Pigs". It's pretty warm and cozy, perfect to read before bed to prepare you for good sleep. Speaking of characters, every one of them has its unique characteristics and uses in the story without many of them being empty or generic. Dynamics between them, despite there not being many, are also pretty nicely done. Especially between Simon and Nicola (later on Bruno too). Art is alright, on some occasions it can be kinda whacky, and on others pretty beautiful (landscapes especially). Nonetheless, I enjoyed it. Overall I don't have many negative thoughts about it, it truly is a relaxing and cozy short read that I can recommend to almost everyone, especially if you're in a more stressful/exhausted period in life.
