You can read this in just one day -or let's say within a short time period- trust me! If you like Yaoi(BL) this will absolutely catch you as it did for me. There are a few aspects that back up my opinion. On the one hand it is the unique story/plot and on the other hand the character design. You won't have the typical "trust-issue" arc as in "you looked at another man, we'll break up", which I find mostly annoying, and the MC won't deny having interest in man. It is amazing how open-minded the characters are, as for it has grated LGBTQ representation. Noone gets judged by their preferences. Speaking about the character design. Look at the cover pls. Isn't he just pretty? But so are all the other characters. Not only by their looks. As mentioned, they seem very open-minded and welcoming. They appear like people you wouldn't mind being friends with. Another aspect, which makes it fun to read, is, that the whole cast shares one and the same hobby. Reading their exited and passionate conversations makes you feel like wanting to be part of it. Or you just feel exited for them. Not needing to mention that everyone still is their own person and has own motivations and goals. Most of them are pretty round characters, most of them develop in some ways. For one, it might be opening up to some person and for another it might be realizing your true self. As a perfect match, the art style underlines their prettiness, cuteness and whatsoever. It feels like, the heaviest focus went into the hair. It looks lively and if you are reading in high resolution or a physical copy you can see the voluminous looking details. A huge plus point for my rating. And last but not least. The "romantic" scenes are just amazing. The development between the two characters made it even better, them going step by step. It will make your heart pound if you truly want to read this manga. So all in all, it is a 10/10 for me. It had me all hooked up, and I even feel like reading it again, as everything amazed me. I still think about the plot line and some elements from time to time. Even after 24 days. Feel free to give it a shot and enjoy reading!
Hailing from the countryside, Yuuki Haiga, an endearing and approachable freshman, quickly adapts to university life, easily making friends and winning the favor of girls. But senior Ryou Kanae is the only person that manages to leave Haiga awestruck: with his glorious long hair, stunning features, and incredible musical talent, Kanae finds a lasting spot in Haiga's mind. When Haiga loses a bet against his friends, he finds himself at a box spa—a secluded place that offers intimate same-sex services. Fostering lingering doubts about being bisexual, Haiga sees this as an opportunity to come to a definitive answer. However, in his nervous state, Haiga is unaware that he bought time with none other than his beautiful senior, Kanae. All Haiga asks for is an honest conversation about sexual identity, but Kanae insists on a more hands-on approach. Unable to stay away, Haiga continues returning for more, but he must determine if his feelings are genuine love or merely admiration. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
This manga was nothing short of amazing. Since this is my first review, I don't know how helpful this would be but hang in there, I've got some good stuff to talk about this manga. - Character design: I started reading this manga for Ryo but I really enjoyed the general character design of it too much to drop it. I usually go for the mangas with character designs I would like and Pink Heart Jam certainly didn't disappoint. The way Haiga was portrayed was beautiful and he soon became my favourite character, along with Ryo (sorry not ready to let him go yet). - Plot:I wasn't expecting the plot to be so goooood. MAL clubs it under the school genre but it's actually based in college and events around it. I liked how open-minded the concept of this manga was, and how everyone is so accepting of each other. Even though it was 11 chapter manga, I really really enjoyed reading every single bit of it. - Characters: Haiga was the perfect cinnamon roll ML for a cool Ryo. I actually liked the calm vs confused dynamic between the two a little too much. The other characters were also pretty well written too and you can feel their personalities pretty clearly. - NSFW content: Yes there are some racy scenes in this manga but the best part about this was that it was all CONSENSUAL. I've not read a lot of mangas but it's difficult to find consensual sex in mangas. I usually find a lot of reluctant, or even plain-out nonconsensual scenes, and if that's something you're into, good for you, but those aren't my cup of tea. You also don't have to read a lot of 'no', 'stop' or something along those lines in Pink Heart Jam. The MLs only took an enthusiastic yes as the only cue to start getting raunchy. Another thing I dislike about most of the mangas I have read is that after a couple of sex scenes, the characters suddenly fall in love. The reason that Pink Heart Jam has an amazing plot is because it's well thought-out and even though sex is a part of it, it isn't the main focus of it. - Sequel and other works: I went into this manga almost blindly without any context but after reading it, I found that it was cancelled???? But by the time I read this, the mangaka has announced a sequel (SO EXCITED) that's releasing this month and the official English volume for it will be announced in 2024. I'm going to read the other works by the mangaka because it's not easy to find a good story which suits my preferences and Pink Heart Jam was all that and much more! I appreciate you sparing your time for my two cents on Pink Heart Jam. See you around!
Wow, I wasn't expecting to like it so much. It's basically my first BL, I don't usually read it because I've always heard that they are usually toxic relationships, besides preferring a little more GLs. The reason why I decided to read this one was because of the appearance of the characters, especially Ryo. I really like this duality, serious face vs the cheerful cute, but especially Ryo's traits were what caught my attention. At first sight, because as the story progressed I came to love Haiga and his personality much more. However, I found myself reading a super cute romance between two adults, all consensual andwithout many dramas. Haiga sincerity and the way Ryo was open to him made me fall in love with the characters. It doesn't have much focus besides them, it's a very short manga, but it also has some relationships with secondary characters that I thought were cute. And very sweet. It's good to read an lgbt story that is not just drama and sadness all the time. The plot took me very by surprise, I didn't expect it at all, but it didn't disappoint me. The characters are very open-minded and understanding. I really like it, I have a toxic relationship with dramas, so I prefer these lighter stories. Man, I would read a lot more of them, I will definitely go after more work from the author and give support as I can. NSFW also surprised me, I never really understood the appeal of reading stories like this, I wasn't even a fan of ecchi, imagine something more explicit. In this manga it was different, I enjoyed it a lot and was surprised by the emotions that this type of art passes. And it can be cute too. Seriously, I love these two. Anyway, this was my experience reading my first NSFW and BL manga. I hope to have more good experiences like this.
Pink Heart Jam is a refreshing read from the usual dramatic BL that we are so used to read. In fact, there isn’t much drama to begin with. Just the story of two young adults falling in love and learning about themselves. You have Haiga on one side, a freshman in university, who isn’t entirely convinced about his sexuality; and on the other you have Kanae, a senior in university, who knows very well who he is attracted to and would like to have a romantic partner. They find themselves in a very interesting circumstance, and as their relationship progressed they realize that they truthfully care forone another. The story sounds very cliche but it is very realistic in its depiction, especially the more explicit scenes. I enjoyed how both of the two boys wanted one another and none were, so to speak, passive. And not just that, they have realistic problems, goals and a love story that we have heard at least once about from a friend or two. I would have liked to give it 10 if the story concentrated on the dynamic of the two protagonists with other characters, but this is just a minor criticism that I think could have added to this incredible story. A feel good story. Not for the people looking for a convoluted story or drama.
