I was quite surprised when I saw that the overall score of Aisopos was of only a little above 7,5. Aisopos is a story of love. Not the kind of romance that we are used to; love in a more general sense, with its best and worst sides. Of course, this is not a romance manga; it's full of adventures; but everything that happens can be traced back to love. Amidst the adventure, Aisopos' strong point however is the storytelling: Aesop hears stories that will change his way of thinking, and eventually makes up his own. These stories are simple, but full of symbolic for thestory. It also gives a feel of a time where stories were passed on orally. Aisopos is also full of historical references that are very interesting. The art accompanies this idea wonderfully well, mixing the manwha-webtoon style with Ancient Greek style. Finally, the characters are very interesting: who is good, who is bad, who is dangerous, who holds the power? Each time you think you have an answer to these questions, you might soon realise that you got it wrong. The characters are quite complex, which gives a more realistic feel. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this. It was sometimes quite heavy, and drew out some tears out of me. I think that Aisopos is quite unique, so if you want to try something different, I definitely recommend it.
