— SPOILERS FREE - story : everything is original, I have never come across this type of story before. the comedy stories are funny and there are stories that are not shown in the anime. the romance story is not as much as I thought but it was enough to make my heart tremble, the relationship of each character is romantic & not excessive. the scene is depicted with real. art : I really like this one more than the others, the art style is very detailed & pleasing to the eye. I really like the colored pages because it makes my eyes comfortable and looks pretty. characters:once you read it, it's clear how the characteristics of the characters are drawn. I like the cheerful Narumi character complementing the slightly stiff Hirotaka, as well as the mature Kabakura character facing the childish Hanagi. nao and kou are also the perfect clashing mix! enjoyment : from the above review it is clear that this is very enjoyable! I really like the bonus parts, character explanations and bonus artwork provided!
Narumi Momose is a petite and cute young woman who loves idols, games, and everything anime or manga-related, especially in the boys' love genre. In other words, she is a closet otaku and more specifically, a fujoshi. After a breakup due to these kind of interests, she quits her job and joins a new company. At her new workplace, the only colleagues who know about her secret are her childhood friend Hirotaka Nifuji, a blunt gaming otaku; Hanako Koyanagi, a cool and mature-looking beauty; and Tarou Kabakura, an attractive guy with a scary face who always gets into fights with Hanako. While having drinks to catch up, Hirotaka advises Narumi to date someone who would understand her hobbies. But she is hesitant—otakus are typically perceived as gross, and the only ones who can understand them are otakus themselves. Or could a relationship between two otakus work? Following the relationship of Narumi and Hirotaka as they begin dating, Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii is a light-hearted story about those who try to balance work, relationships, and hobbies. Currently video games, manga and anime are one of the most popular hobbies among young people around the world that make up a global industry that is constantly on the rise. These hobbies have been deeply installed in our lives and for many they are more than a way to pass the time since these hobbies have made them create memorable memories of their childhood, they have supported them during a difficult time or they simply find it enjoyable to interact with other people who share their hobbies within a community. Wotakoi takes these elements that form the enjoyment of many and together with love, one ofthe most complex feelings of humans, presents us with the story about those who try to deal with work, relationships and hobbies. Story(7/10): The main attraction of this manga is not based on the creation of a complex plot or development of supernatural characters, but rather it is based on showing us the daily life of a group of friends who share one of the most popular hobbies in Japanese culture: Video games, manga and anime. Given the nature of this story, genres such as drama or action do not appear frequently or are simply non-existent, but others such as comedy or romance are more than enough to enjoy this peaceful story between Narumi, Hirotaka, Tarou and Hanako. Art(9/10): As always, I like to mention that I'm not an expert at breaking down the art but I find the facial expressions, poses and proportions of the characters to be solidly consistent and visually pleasing. Characters(8/10): The personalities of the characters are nothing that has not been explored before but that does not mean that they are boring and it is worth mentioning that each of them has a unique and intense passion for a specific hobby, the term to describe them is Otaku. Narumi is the cute, goofy girl who is always upbeat and gets along with everyone, but underneath that facade she's a fujoshi otaku who writes BL doujinshi. Hirotaka is a hard-working, deadpan, and honest person who makes no secret of being a gamer otaku. Tarou is a strong person with the traits of a leader who can be considered the least otaku of all but still has a strong interest in anime and manga. Hanako is the elegant and mature girl on the front but in reality she is a sensitive girl, cosplay lover who is always arguing with Tarou. Observing the relationship between these four is fun, touching and comical that is worth the time one invests emotionally towards them. The last couple to mention is Naoya and Kou. Naoya is a sweet and innocent boy who establishes a relationship with the shy and scary Kou, they have a development that starts in friendship and develops until they become close to each other. Although the plot features Hirotaka and Narumi as the main couple, I personally enjoyed the love story between Tarou and Hanako or Naoya and Kou more. This is because Narumi initially seems to view Hirotaka as more of an otaku friend than a romantic partner, a fact that doesn't change until the very last moments of the manga. Seeing the past and near future of Tarou and Hanako or the sweet progression between Naoya and Kou is more enjoyable than seeing the main couple. Enjoyment(9/10): 84-86 episodes of comedy, slice of life and romance that didn't feel too heavy or too light have made me spend a wonderful time with these characters. Something worth mentioning is that there are small details that I loved to see, such as the different references to games or series and the extra pages giving us even more insight into the characters. Overall(8/10): Wotakoi is a recommended manga for its otaku theme and captivating characters that highlights the effort dedicated to its characters, art and that stands out for exposing the different feelings and hobbies that most of us who are in MAL share, without forgetting the romance between otakus , of course.
This manga (and the anime) is a romance that was a nice change of pace from the typical high-school stuff seen. It is one of the first manga I have ever read, and it is nice to look back on what has happened. Honestly, its a very cute and wholesome show with alot of feel good vibes, but it really is style over substance. The main romance with Hirotaka and Narumi seems much more like a friendship, and even the end doesn't feel very genuine. The cast is decent and varied enough, but in my eyes, the romance aspect feels somewhat forced for all thecouples. I guess my biggest problem with it, is that everything is just perfect. All of these characters are meant to be attractive, and fit some kind of trope or category. The workplace setting also doesn't really add much to the story. It's not a very deep manga, and is pretty repetitive, so if you don't like the premise it's probably not for you.
TL DR Very cute and funny story, great characters, great art, great romance between the side characters, nice overall story, and an absolute failure of a romance between the two main characters. Story is nice and light in tone, no angst, and it’s very funny. There’s not really a plot, it’s slice of life, but the pacing is pretty decent as it does jump a few weeks every chapter. The romance between the two side characters has a very nice progression, with definite character development on both sides. If you’re looking for the romance part of the romcom, this is where you’ll find it, tho there’sdefinitely also comedy The romance between the two main characters doesn’t exist. There’s some light progression in the first ten or so chapters, and then nothing (and I do mean absolutely nothing) until the last three chapters. They hold hands once at one point, and then pretend it didn’t happen, and she sees him naked once, and again nothing happens. Honestly not sure why the author wanted to make this a romance between these right from the beginning if they weren’t going to actually do anything with it. The plot is really two old friends rekindling an old friendship, and realizing a romance right at the end. It’s nice and works, but is definitely not what the summary says. 100% recommend and think it’s a great manga overall, but don’t expect any actual romance from the main two, just a lot of cute and funny interactions.
I had an amazing time reading the manga. Well of course, at first I watched the anime. And I must say, since the very first episode of the anime to the last chapter of the manga, this animanga has been an amazing thing to have come across. I didnt feel bored at all, not even for a second. Okay, so where do I begin? The protagonists' personalities were amazingly built and they seemed very practical as well. It was as if the plot could be imagined to be happening in real lives. I really loved how the animanga portrayed the struggles of a closet wotaku. I really likedthe environment the story was built on and how one can struggle to come out with one's hobbies in a new place. I really really reeaallly loved Hirotaka Nifuji's character. He's an otaku of course, but he's very mature in his own way. He's a chad, to put simply. He might become one of my most liked male MCs, more importantly because he was very much different from typical male MCs in the romance genre. Other than Hirotaka, I really cant choose whom I liked the most because all the characters were amazing. I loved Hanako, I loved Kabakura, I loved Kou, I loved Naoya and I loooved Narumi. I would personally rate this animanga a 9.5/10. An amazing watch and an amazing read. Absolutely a 100% recommendable!
