The World Ends With You is a manga that, sorry to say, I'm disappointed with. I am a fan of the game which made me want to read the manga in the first place. The art is average, the story is loosely based on the game, and the humor is very childish like. However, it only shows the first part of the story and not the rest like the game did. In my opinion, the DS game was better than the manga. So, I recommend that you should just play the game and not bother to even read this.
I didn't play the game, and I dun own a DS, so I have noooo idea what the comic is about at all. Story:2 Really really very poor for a one shot, seeing how it is from a game. The story seems like Fate/Stay Night, with a main protagonist suddenly landing in a game. But unlike Fate/Stay Night, see no action at all, all I know is that it's some kind of game, and other small details. Supposed to have plot, but terribly messed up, focus jumps here and there. Art:6 Commendable art, but not surprising, it looks something like from Kingdom Hearts or any other similar SquareEnix game. Prob is the art seems quite messy and I have no idea what some panels are trying to show. Character:1 Was there any character DESCRIPTION other than names? The characters seem random, even the main characters. Worst character development in a one shot I've ever seen. Enjoyment:2 Kinda interesting, a few of the panels, the others, just confusing. Overall:2 At the end of chapter 2 they say "story continues in the game". So, this one shot is too abstract to be called manga... isn't it? It's more like a game prequel, except, that I dun even understand even half of what it's trying to show.
In the middle of Shibuya's scramble crossing, one boy finds himself able to hear the thoughts of the people around him. Unsure as to why he's there with nothing but a mysterious black badge with a skull on it, Neku Sakuraba is quickly spotted by a girl who demands to make a pact with him, explaining that she requires it to not get "erased" by malicious creatures known as the "Noise." After forming the pact, the mysterious girl defeats the Noise and introduces herself as Shiki Misaki, along with her stuffed animal Nyan-tan. Shiki explains that the two of them must join forces for the next seven days, as they are part of the "Shinigami's Game." Much to his dismay, Neku reluctantly goes along as an invisible wall prevents him from leaving Shibuya. Not only will the duo need to protect themselves from the Noise using "psychs", abilities gained from badges, but they are also required to clear daily Missions given under certain time limits. As he clears the seemingly needless Missions one after another, Neku is left wondering about the true nature of the Shinigami's Game. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
I had high hopes for this manga because it is from one of my favorite video games "the world ends with you" but... The manga was horrible, it only has two chapters. The first chapter has a very strong beginning but the second was HORRIFIC. After Neku is given his first mission to reach 104 building, it just has a picture of a few noise then... 7 Days Later... WHAT KIND OF REAPERS GAME IS THAT, Neku doesn't even finish any of the reaper missions or beat the game master. The art was pretty good though, especially the color pages. I found enjoyment deeply staringat the art. The characters didn't really have much depth 2 chapters I say isn't enough for character development or even introduce all the characters. Overall THIS IS THE WORST MANGA I HAVE EVER READ! I highly suggest not reading it, it is a waste of life and effort to move your eyes and process the words, read something better like Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, Fairy Tail or even Hentai just not the world ends with you manga cause I guarantee YOU WILL HATE IT.
The World Ends With You is a manga adaptation of the DS game The World Ends With You from 2007. You could probably figure that one out. This is pretty much just a one-shot as there are only two chapters. It really only adapts the very, very beginning of the game, but not very good. There is pretty much no fighting, if there is, I either missed it or it was just one panel. Artwork is pretty lackluster, compared to other Square manga, such as the Kingdom Hearts adaptations. Neku is alot more childish and whiny in this adaptation than he is in the gameor even the new anime adaptation. Every other character is kinda useless and doesn't bring anything to the table. Overall, the manga, despite being only 2 chapters was pretty boring to read and I don't read alot of manga in the first place. I was pretty let down, especially from what I consider one of my favourite DS games and from my expectations of Square's manga after reading the Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 manga years ago.
The world ends with you is probably my favorite game of all time. The manga on the other hand, is not very good at all. It leaves out a whole lot, doesn't really get the characters personalities correct, and doesn't really had a story all together... Really, if you had no idea about the game at all, i could imagen this manga leaving you very confused as to what, who and why anything is really happening. HOWEVER, there were some things I find somewhat redeemable. I did quite like the art style it was drawn in. It's not anything show stopping or even unique, but ifeel like it fit well with the look and kind of personality of the game and looked good over all. It's also short, which is both good and bad. Good because it didn't really waste to much time, and Bad because if it were longer, then maybe they would have put more effort or been able to do something to make it better. Lastly, and i might get some flack for this but... I did like the humor. As a big fan of the game, I rather enjoyed just something a little dumb with my favorite characters. I enjoyed the derpiness of it all, even though it wasn't clever at all. So over all, if you're looking for something that will give you a little more then a giggle over Neku calling someone a cornflake as an insult, or Mr. H missing his chance to be in the comic, then I'd skip it.
