An unfinished manga based on the Armored Core series. You do not have to be a fan of the video games to read this, it is serviceable if all you want is a short mecha to burn through in an hour. Any sort of technobabble and lingo that non-AC players might not understand is explained in the story, but thankfully there is not too much of that. Like the games, the mechs look sick and all the mechanical design is top-notch. The characters look good, but they're not going to knock your socks off; design wise they're not anything you have not seen before (butthats ok). The story revolves around the arena, so for what has been written, there is no mercenary field-work action that the games focus on bar one small scene. The biggest setback this manga has is its status. Its unfinished, not only that, it was canned quite early on in the narrative, so we I feel we did not get to see the best it had to offer. Which is a shame because the last chapter (5) was the beginning of an arc that seemed quite interesting. So I can't fully recommend this manga because of its incomplete status, but I also can't not recommend it because what is there is not half bad. As previously stated, its good if you're bored at work or school and you need a quick mecha-kick.
Following the dissolution of the Corporations from countless conflicts, independent nations have taken over, claiming territories to become their own countries. In the battle for land and resources, independent mercenaries known as Ravens piloting powerful, customizable machines known as Armored Cores are hired to wage these battles. Unrelated to these warring factions is another place where Ravens may fight and compete each other, known as the Arena. Here, skilled pilots test their mettle against one another to become the top-ranked pilot. (Source: Armored Core Wiki)
A short but really enjoyable story. Story: 8 Surprisingly, it has a really decent story, not just simple mecha based fights. Every combat have a backstory, making the fights emotional and meaningful. It was like fresh air to read it. Characters: 8 Sadly, not everyone had enough time on the panels, but the main ones are interesting and has goals with what are they doing. Art: 9 The characters are good, but the mecha are amazing. You can see every little scratch on them, and almost feel the weight of the parts of them. The details of the mecha are the best on still panels, the artist clearly loved what theydid with them.
