Lonely Girl in Sakaraenai is a simple yuri manga with nothing really exciting. The premise is alright, I kinda like the way it was going and then we went on with the typical romance tropes. Honestly, I don’t necessarily feel disappointed, It’s just an okay-ish manga. I will give the mangaka some props though. He (or she) didn’t drag it for long, didn’t milked it for no reason. They were strangers, then friends, then lovers and happy ending. The drawing is quite good, the surroundings are well drawn, I like it. If you are a yuri enjoyer you’ll like this manga, there’s nothing wrong with it. Noreason to write a pamphlet about it, It’s just aight, nothing special.
Despite being at the top of her middle school class in both grades and athletics, Ayaka Sakurai finds herself stuck with her backup choice for high school due to her tendency to falter under pressure. Recognizing Ayaka's struggles, Michiko Egawa, her homeroom teacher, surprises her with an exchange of favors: if Ayaka can get Sora Honda, her classmate, to stop skipping class, Egawa will write a letter of recommendation to any school Ayaka wants. After her first meeting with Sora, Ayaka reports back to Egawa, but Sora overhears their conversation. With Ayaka's ulterior motive out in the open, Sora agrees to cooperate in coming to school as long as Ayaka obeys one of her requests every day. To seal the deal, Sora first demands a kiss! In short: It's like a bowl of chicken soup: nothing complicated, but it's enjoyable and warms the soul. Is it complex, with exciting highs and depressing lows? No. Did it feel like an arduous journey filled with blood, sweat, and tears? Nah not really. Is it simple, comforting, and lovable? Absolutely. The story isn't special but it makes you smile. Most "conflicts" are resolved quickly or without much build up. Admittedly this could be seen as a flaw, but I would argue that it works in this story. The manga doesn't try to be anything more than relaxing and wholesome, and it succeeds. Characters aren't complex, but still lovable. Whatthey lack in depth they make up for with fun interactions you'll enjoy seeing. The art is simple, expressive, and adorable. It does a good job presenting what the characters feel, as well as the tone of the scenes. I also love when the characters become chibis, I can't help but smile when I see them. In conclusion, the manga is simple, straightforward, and cozy. If you're looking for your next favorite manga with ground-breaking story telling, 200 IQ writing, and loads of twists and turns this won't be for you. But if you're looking for a heartwarming story that's a relaxing read, you'll enjoy this manga.
lonely girl isn't anything special really. it's story is simple, the art is cute, and overall it's just really adorable. If you are looking for something a bit more mature, maybe pass on lonley girl. But if you like cute yuri fluff then read this for sure. lonely Girl doesn't need to have the most interesting story and in depth character arcs. It's straight up tooth rotting and im ok with that! The main characters are writen well and even the side characters get some action. I highly recommend this title for anyone who just wants to reada short and sweat yuri romance with some light drama. nothing too serious but the sugar content here.
I was looking for a comfy yuri manga, and I found one of the best with this one. The drama is light and simple, but the love is soft and fluffy. I couldn't want more from a series like this. For the main couple, there is the friendly and determined Ayaka and the shy yet loving Sora. Ayaka is an ideal MC in many ways, as she is not gimmicky or complicated but not flat or boring. She has goals, and she is willing to take the steps to reach the goals while learning about herself and her true feelings. Sora is a bit more flatand simple, but that's why she's comfy like a sleeping cat. How their relationship grows between each other and their friends really makes the story warm and sweet. The characters work well together, and none of them are dislikeable. The premise is interesting, but it doesn't distract from the slice of life simplicity that can be expected here. It does the job needed: the main characters have a reason to meet and interact. The rest of the manga will refer back to it from time to time, but its importance fades fairly quickly... And that's a GOOD thing! Lately, I have read quite a few with (paid or unpaid) favors, requests, and/or blackmail, and most of them were flawed and have major issues that cause me to get uncomfortable while acting like it's romantic. This manga avoids that with quick developments in a good direction without many of the problematic tropes and clichés that come alongside it. 10/10 I HIGHLY recommend giving this series a read. Will this series be lifechanging? Probably not, but it does everything it sets out to perfectly. It's easy to read and is comfy as heck. I'll probably reread this on occasion to enjoy a softer slice of life with simplicity and love being the focus.
TL;DR -- some nice fluff dragged down by tropes of the genre. I don't usually read yuri (at least unless the premise intrigues me), but I am a sucker for a fluff romance so I do undergo an occasional binge of the girl-on-girl manga. For the most part, the reason I tend to avoid not just yuri but yaoi as well is that a lot of the stories get consumed by either JUST that, or the surmounting tropes of the genres. Lonely Girl is kind of both; there is just a tinge too much dependence in terms of characterization for me. It feels as thoughquite a few girls in the manga are defined by their relationships to the counterparts, which makes for some really shallow characters. Even the two mains seldom step outside the assigned tropes, and even when they do, it's very brief and never leads anywhere. None of this, really, is anything close to an objective critique--usually, if a trope is repeated ad-nauseum throughout the genre, it means that it resonates with at least the majority of the audience. The same way I don't enjoy straight-folk romances that are JUST romances, I don't enjoy it in here either. Admittedly, there might a bit more to the story beyond which girl will end up with which other one and how, but unless you are really invested into seeing it happen, nothing else of great import really transpires. Sure, there are your dramatic tropes that come to usurp the status quo, but they never really shake anything up enough that it warrants an emotional reaction. For the most part, I simply stumbled through pages numbly, occasionally mumbling 'that's cute' like a lunatic, and occasionally just fast-forwarding through the pages when it felt like I was reading every other yuri ever. Nonetheless, despite my mixed feelings, as far as a good number of yuri romances go, this... ain't even bad. It's a par-for-the-course rom-com, and one of the few that doesn't completely surrender itself to the tropes, so if you are tentatively interested in broadening your horizons beyond your everyday rom-coms and want to dip your toes into the other side, this is a legitimately good starting point. You'll get the fluff, the cuteness, and you'll get the tropes you'll continue to see in every yuri ever.
