Ichido dake demo, Koukai Shitemasu is a breath of fresh air, and I think might be the best portrayal of a lesbian romance I've seen in yuri manga. Oftentimes there isn't much effort actually given to the process of discovering you might be queer, and the flood of emotions that come with that discovery. Ichido dake demo, Koukai Shitemasu handles the entire process with real respect for its characters. The manga also isn't padded with the annoying tropes of romance manga, there's no padding of will they won't they, instead we simply see characters trying to understand their feelings and come to terms with notbeing straight. There's no pointless edge, or fights, or annoying misunderstandings that could be solved with a conversation. The characters act like people and are so genuine that I can't help but feel like the story and characters must be based on the author's real experiences. The only problem is the premise makes it pretty hard to introduce people to what has essentially become my favorite romance manga of all time. If you're looking into reading this, I beg of you please don't ignore it because of the admittedly pretty offputting premise. It's short and sweet and 100% worth your time.
Twenty-four-year-old Chiyo Kozuka is down on her luck. Unemployed and with an empty bank account and three months behind her rent, she has no idea what to do. That is until her landlady knocks on her door and asks if they can have sex! If Chiyo agrees, the landlady promises to help her with financial issues. The following day, Chiyo wakes up surprised to see her landlady sleeping next to her. Confused and hungover, she finds that she has no memory of the previous night. Nonetheless, when her landlady wakes up, she stays true to her word and proposes a unique financial agreement to Chiyoβone that Chiyo is in no position to deny! [Written by MAL Rewrite]
I rarely write reviews for Anime/Manga I read however I do want to give my opinions on this one. When I start an Anime/Manga I generally will watch some of it at the moment then leave it and most likely not return, however, this one genuinely made me return. One of the main reasons people dislike the whole Yuri genre is because of how forced the relationships are however in this as you watch you can really understand the hardships they had to go through, there is no time skips then BOOM they love each other, you can really feel the development within this mangaand that's one of the primal reasons I love it. Despite the fact that Landlady is openly lesbian she still makes sure that Chiyo is comfortable, she makes sure to respect her boundaries and follow through with things that Chiyo wants to do. I feel like that's really something worth mentioning within this manga. As far as pacing goes I HIGHLY doubt you'll ever be uninterested nor bored, there's always something new happening between the landlady and Chiyo or maybe even some background characters as well. Now let's get into the second part of the review, although I Recommend this, this show is definitely gonna be targeted towards a specific age group since it does contain MANY sexual scenes throughout the manga but hey, it definitely adds onto the character development and in this case, it starts the manga off for us. I hope this review inspired you to give this maybe a shot!
I've never been more pleasantly surprised. The title alone seems comedic, but this manga is nothing but a heartfelt, wholly gay story. It mostly takes place in the home, so you get a LOT of domestic fluff, but its also a gl that follows the lives of two adults, which is a little harder to find without being violently angsty or sexual. The characters are adorably designed, with differentiating body types and faces that make the art style very squishy but not generic. It doesn't over-saturate the fact they're gay, but its important to the story and the characters themselves. For such a quick read, it'sfunny, well paced, and satisfying. I just really think this is cute and a perfect read for when you're feeling cold or lonely.
Ichido dake demo, Koukai Shitemasu (sorry, i am not going to use the cringe english title) is a short and sweet story between a landlord and bummy unemployed tenant. It's a bit similar to Monthly in the Garden with My Landlord but it's a bit spicier. The intimate scenes aren't too graphic though and are actually quite sweet. I really like how the relationship between the characters developed even though the premise is a bit silly (returning "favors" to pay for rent). I really like the more simplistic artsyle as well. It also is clear that the author was intending to do more with theside characters and backstory but unfortunately there isnt enough space to fit all that within 3 volumes.
Day 17/30 of the Yurithon: I thought that this yuri was just going to be some weird nonsense that I would relatively enjoy in the moment, then promptly forget about after reviewing. I hope I was wrong, but I've read so many excellent yuri that I can't guarantee anything. Be that as it may, "I Can't Believe I Slept with You!" was a fun read. I thought for sure that this manga would be way more erotic than it actually was; I've definitely seen this premise in a lot of "media" before. But in spite of that, the author somehow manages to turn a sort ofpet-and-owner relationship into a believable and cute romance. That being said, I really needed more dimensions to both Chiyo and Ritsuka; they largely go through the story with the same personality and don't undergo much change in terms of character. Ritsuka's awkward meeting with a high school friend was interesting, but I just wanted more of that. The side characters definitely could've used more fleshing out; Aoi worked well enough as a basic friend character, but I feel like Setouchi's story at least deserved a conclusion, and I'm not sure if Yotsugaya should've even been introduced, considering she basically has no considerable purpose in the story. However, I can easily commend the pacing and length of the manga; I never felt like my time was wasted and there weren't really any lulls in the story. This is probably the most seven-out-of-ten yuri I've read (a.k.a., it's mid).
