The love, hate and depression that this manga conveys is incredible. It's a fascinating manga, it keeps you in a limbo of tenderness and constant worry. There are horrible people in the world, and this manga makes that very clear. But just as there are evil people, there are also wonderful people, and in many cases, life is so unfair that those who do good end up suffering more than the evil ones. Laws and justice are paradoxically unjust and do not take the victim into account in their application. What is the point of sending the victim to the abode of the perpetrator? None, except to comply with the "law", a law that ends up hurting more than it helps. This work is a clear demonstration of that. On the other hand, I have to say that I expected more suffering from this marvellous manga. That's why I say in the previous words, that it keeps you in a limbo of happiness and worry. You feel how at any moment, the little happiness that some pages give you, can go to waste at any moment. You feel how the life of a girl who wants a normal life, can end in tragedy at any moment, reading this work does not amuse, it does not entertain, but it is stressful. But that stress is addictive, although a short work in length, chapter after chapter draws you in more and more. You want to know what will happen in the next chapter, you want to make sure that the protagonist will not suffer again, and for that you have to keep reading. It's a hard read, but you keep going. And to be completely honest, it's worth it. Reading such a beautiful story is completely worth the stress. At the end, it leaves a very beautiful message, which by the way I won't reveal, as doing so might end up taking away the surprise of reading it for the first time by yourself. Now going to the technical part, it has a very good drawing style, faces and facial expressions that if I have to say, transmit more content than the words themselves. Expressions of pain, terror, sadness, happiness, all of them transmit much more emotions than words. So I recommend reading the manga calmly, without rushing, paying attention to each panel, to each facial expression, to each body expression. If you do so, you will have a much more complete experience than just reading the words that the mangaka offers in his dialogue boxes. In short, I can only tell you one thing: Read it. Nothing else. It's a manga that I gave a 9, and although my way of rating manga is not strict, I assure you that it doesn't disappoint. Sure, if you're looking for a romance drama or a CGDCT type comedy, this is not for you, but if you like a dark, short manga that conveys a lot of emotions both good and bad, this is definitely for you.
Following the death of his daughter, Assistant Inspector Hajime Yamada has lost hope in everything, and jobs like closing under-aged prostitution rings don't exactly help matters. But there he meets a girl who looks alarmingly like his late daughter. Her name is Shiori Umino, a runaway girl who's desperate enough to sell herself to escape her house but won't tell anyone why. Now that's a seinen - straight to the point, zero filler, emotionally turbulent. 'Nora to Zassou' doesn't skirt around uncomfortable societal issues: underage prostitution, child abuse, understaffed child service institutions, and police corruption. At the same time, the series doesn't explore these lines too deeply to drag on. It gives us a brief view of these facets and yet paints a comprehensive picture of what it is to be a 'lost' child...or the person who wants to help it. The story is packed with emotions too. Slipping through the societal cracks, Shiori is self-destructive, angry, and prickly reactive. Her only salvation is a grieving, haunted byhis past man who shouldn't be involved in this due to procedural/institutional rules. It's easy to sugarcoat such a story in sweet optimism or send it into the deep abyss of despair. 'Nora to Zassou' does neither. It's realistic and bittersweet from start to finish. Some readers will be disappointed, but to me, this was the right approach. All in all, 'Nora to Zassou' is a series that speaks volumes in only 26 chapters. It's an absolute must for anyone who's into well-grounded drama and manga focused on socio-economic issues. My only nitpicky sentiment is that towards the middle there were several two abrupt jumps in the story. Two to three extra chapters would have made the plot transition smoother. Definitely give this a read. I'm still torn whether the manga is 8/10 or 8.5/10. In any case, it's one of the better seinen series I've read recently.
How difficult it is to live and be happy, I invite you to read and explore this manga, simple in its drawing but beautiful with a great story told from the point of view of 2 people who do not know what their reason for living is. But if you hold on to something you care about, just LIVE. The truth is that at certain moments I get emotional with the reflections and things that he leaves behind, talking about leaving... perhaps the end will leave you with a bittersweet taste or a feeling of thinking and seeing within yourself if what this work says happensto you. you, it happens to someone you know, etc. Simply magnificent. If you like to read things fast, just sit quietly and read it, every minute of the work is worth it.
