This short story was actually Arina Tanemuraās first full length manga. Itās a cute short story about a girl, with a special good luck charm, falling in love with a boy while attaining even more telekinetic powers. Is this any more realistic than her other manga, or the manga thatās to be? Sure; it has a mix of science and the supernatural so something like this could happen. The art in this manga is iconic and itās what Tanemuraās known for ā big eyes, detailed hair, and the same face & personality. You see, Tanemura hadnāt really deviated from the looks she gave her other characters.Thereās the spunky lead with the long hair, the friends, the pretty average looking guy, the long haired bishounen, the weird looking guy, the cheerful guy, the nerdy, etcetc. Basically, this is where it all started in terms of the looks of the characters. For a first story, itās fine. Itās a fine start with stories thatās to be expected from this author. But if we look at it on its own, itās a typical shoujo story where the girl falls in love first this time but the male character is clueless with another girl vying for his affections. Thereās actually a love rival for the male (heās always after Ion and even has a but heās so inconsequential to the story, heās only seen as comedy and the driving force to bring Mikaido and Ion together. The story is pretty basic although it does explain Ionās connection with her good luck charm and her psychic ability thatās brought on by Mikadoās substance. For a short story, it works. It doesnāt really need any other extra information, although itād be nice to get to know Ionās father more other than the cop-out āHeās actually the scientist Mikaidoās work is based off of! And it just so happensā¦ā trope. But despite this, itās cute and itās a nice read which doesnāt require a lot of deep thought especially since itās so predictable. If youāre interested in Tanemuraās first story, by all means, this is for you but on its own, itās just a cute story about love and telekinesis!
Ion Tsuburagi has always believed that her "jinx"āchanting the letters in her nameābrings her good luck when she needs it. While running away from one of many attempts by the student council president to make her his girlfriend, Ion falls into the arms of Mikado Houraiāthe president of the school's unofficial Psychic Powers Research Club. Naively falling in love with him after learning about his childhood dream, Ion finds herself joining Mikado in his psychic research endeavors, whereupon she stumbles across an object he was experimenting onāa strange, deep blue stone. When she picks it up, the stone shocks her; she instinctively chants her jinx, and as a result, flies up into the sky! Believing the object to be lost, Mikado decides to continue his research efforts nonetheless, using Ion as his test subject in its place! [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Story: 6 It was not so interesting at the begining, but as the story goes on you get interested. Art: 7 That`s Arina Tanemura`s ussual style. Character: 7' Hourai Mikado - some smart serious boy who`s actually a kid inside. He`s confused about his feelings.Tsubaragi Ion - a ussual cheerful cute kind girl who`s in love with Mikado. Nothing special about her, actually. Well, except her physic powers. Minase Ai - Mikado`s ex-girlfriend. has physic powers. tried to compete with Ion. Kouki Shiraishi - long-haired guy who`s in love with Ion. hates Mikado and physic powers. always runs after Ion. Enjoyment: 6 overall: 6 Not the best Tanemura Arina`s work. But i can`t say it`s that bad. But it has only 6 chapters, so no harm reading it.
So this is a 1 volume manga so if you're interested I would just go on and read it since it isn't a bad read. It is a typical shojo manga with some psychic abilities thrown in. The art style is typical of this mangaka and you can def recognize some similarities between her other works- which is fine just saying. I think the opening scene was very engaging and the ending scene was comedic. I was engaged in the story the entire time as it was a good mix of comedy and serious. Overall 6- because yeah like I said nothing special. What onewould want for a short 1 volume shojo manga!
I stumbled upon this manga in a thrift store and picked it up purely because I liked the cover. I wasnāt expecting much beyond a simple romance, and unfortunately, the story turned out to be just mediocre. The characters, especially the female lead, are one-dimensional, with motives that feel shallow or nonexistent. A week after finishing the manga, I can barely remember anything specific about it ā there just wasnāt much substance to leave a lasting impression. Visually, the detailed art style is nice but sometimes makes the pages feel overly busy. The anatomy also looked odd in certain scenes, though overall, itwas decent. If youāre drawn to the art style, you might find some enjoyment in it, but donāt expect a deep story or well-developed character relationships. Personally, I wouldnāt read it again, and I wouldnāt recommend it ā there are far better romance manga out there.
