Kago's a man after my own heart because you can tell he just tries to come up with the most retarded ideas possible and then turn them into stories. This one's a collection of four of those stories, which are all unrelated to each other and cover about 40 pages each. The first one's pretty silly and the third one legitimately fits with the kind of stuff you'd see from Junji Ito. The concepts for the second and fourth stories are a little too retarded to work, the fourth in particular involves vampire cars which is definitely a novel idea. If you want to bereally anal about review scores, the first and third stores are like a 6 and the second and fourth are like a 4, so the whole collection's pretty average overall. The art is standard Kago, although there's no poop, only minimal rape, and the guro elements aren't as extreme as in his other stuff. Personally I consider myself poop- and rape-neutral, although it's hard to deny that poop and rape are two of the cornerstones of Kago's works. Reading something from Kago and not seeing poop or rape in it feels like playing a Mario game and not seeing Yoshi or Bowser. I suppose I could recommend this as something tamer than what Kago usually farts out, but if you're not reading Kago for the poop, rape, and guro then what's the point? In short, feel free to pick this up if you see a copy at like a Mandarake or whatever, but don't go actively seeking it out or you may find yourself disappointed.
1. 4 Labyrinth 2. Curse Room 3. Portrait of Family 4. Blood Harvest
This manga is wild. The ideas are interesting, and the conclusions are shocking. If this manga had one major flaw, its that the endings are so out there they're a little unsatisfying. If it had two flaws, it'd be that the ideas are often REALLY dumb. But they're the interesting kind of the dumb, the kind of dumb that makes you go "that doesn't make sense, but it kinda does?" Brain Damage is the king of dumb. Its whacky, its weird, its morbid and interesting. If you like a manga of consistent quality, this ain't it. But if youlike a manga that makes you go "Wow! Where the hell is this story going!?" Then you'll have a blast with Brain Damage.
4 Stories by Kago. Not as silly as most of his work, but still very silly. Overall a really solid collection Labyrinth Quartet - 10 This one showcases what i love about Kago as an artist. Absurd idea, great twist The Cursed Room - 7 I didn't understand the final punchline, probably could be higher if i ever make sense of it The Family Portrait - 1This one has a lot to like, but the humor just feels to icky for me. I'm not a fan of the "wow look a pervert" manga humor in general, and a big part of this story is taking this joke to hyperbole. The main idea of the story is really good, but Kago himself did the same idea in a Dementia 21 a lot better. Blood Harvest - 9 More serious tone for most of the story, and it works really well. Also helps that this one has amazing art
