This is one of the works where quality of art is stellar, but the story is not that great. It reminded me of "Origin", "Cambrian" and "Mephisto", written by othe authors. The high point of this work is high quality visuals - characters are drawn in very realistic way with a lot of detail, and there are occasional pages where quality is photo-realistic. Though I did wonder whether the artist used a model to pose the main heroine. Visuals also resemble pinup drawings on occasion. The work does not focus on sexual content, but there's nudity here and there and heroine definitely is made pretty, with exaggerated poses andthe like. It is not as obvious as a pinup though, and a bit hard to explain. The story and characters, however, do not live up to quality of graphics. First the premise is unrealistic to the point of almost being a futuristic fantasy. The characters act in reckless and not very believable ways, and the story leaves a lot to be desired. All things considered, thsi tile is worth checking out for visuals alone, but as far as story and character go, you shouldn't expect much from it. Great visuals, not so great storytelling and personalities there.
December 1, 2043 AD. The mysterious life form "Baby" invades Earth and takes control of a number of human hosts, parasitising them. The possessed bodies metamorphize into monsters called "Organos," which slaughter a great mass of humanity in a series of bloody massacres, bringing mankind to the brink of extinction. Thereafter, December 1 comes to be known as "Extinction Day." While battling an Organo, Elettra, the protagonist of the story, finds that her left hand has been infected by Baby. However, aside from a throbbing pain in her hand, nothing about the rest of her body changes. Elettra begins to search for other survivors, hoping to solve the mystery of Baby. (Source: MU)
The concept for this manga is a fun one. Although it has been done in the past, probably many a time. Machines take over society, the last humans fight back. It is original enough in the details to make it a fun read. It feels like an action movie plot and it wraps up like an action movie would. perhaps a little to quickly and neatly. If you want a quick read between chapters of longer heavier stuff, you won't have a bad time, but don't expect too much out of this one. The characters feel like action movie tropes. Bad ass chick a-la ResidentEvil(the movies) or Underworld(y'all remember that one?), Some soldier fodder, with a bad ass leader Vin Diesel type, some scientists who f'ed up the planet. Very standard stuff. No real character development, they are their trope and they stay that way. The art is fine. I like to do some art now and again, and I'm down with using reference, everyone does it. This takes it a bit far though. The lead soldier isn't just a "Vin Diesel" type, he's actually Vin Diesel. Like, that was drawn over a picture of Vin Diesel. Those covers are nice, the protag looks good, but they are sketched over pictures or screencaps. It's a shame because the artists are clearly skilled, but it really takes you out when you are trying to figure out what actress that is. Probably the chick from Underworld. It helps with the action movie vibe I guess? Over all very mid tier all around, nothing offensive, nothing spectacular. I read it in about 2-3 hours so perfect action movie length. It's pretty hard to keep up with the Miuras and Boichis and Muratas so I don't blame them for cheating just a bit.
