The Black Healer

The main issue with this story is its horrendous pacing, leading to trash quality of a fairly decent-enough story for the average Light Novel adaption. I'm not interested in reading the source material, so this is strictly my opinion on the comic adaption. --- .:STORY:. (5) For the most part, Misuzu-turned-Reene (silent-e) is just some 22-year-old college nerd obsessed with animu and mangos and RPGs. Due to another world's demands, she got dragged into the world of Gaia with a newfound ability of magic. Her magic allows her to unknowingly pose as a "Child of Gaia" and thus receive tremendous political protection, but in reality, she'san Other Worlder. This means she's basically a Child of Gaia + cheats, ie overpowered as heck. And only because Reene wants to go home, she learns more about the world and its laws, allows herself to be a political pawn, and constantly makes good connections with next-to-no effort on her part. But, more importantly, she's a light novel MC, and so it gets kinda dull how capable she is from the get-go. The beginning chapters were very painful to endure due to that. Now, the rest of the story would simply be an intense summation of events, and that's pointless. In a mere 49 chapters, they crammed so much into trash transitions and pacing that the normal reader would get confused. Just as it gets good, everything's done and over with. Just as the pace seems to have found itself, it changes once again to where it seems a few chapters were skipped. If pacing is high in your requirements for a good read, then be wary. However, this is a completed story that goes exactly how you expect it to, so there's really not much to endure beyond that. Especially if you can handle light novel adaptions. -- .:ART:. (8.5) Personally, the failure for the artist to portray the transitions is a huge concern that goes beyond the writing. I instantly knock-off a point whenever age is poorly presented; while this world has mana which prolongs one's youth, those who age more akin to Earthlings should look their age a lot more. On the other hand, there's actually a bit of signs that one looks older by adding the lines to the face's bridge, so I only knock half a point for this art style. But there's very little moments where the art quality falters beyond these two things, so it's not that off-putting. Would've preferred Renee looking a tad more her age (22) rather than if she were only 17, but that's just personal preference. -- .:CHARACTER:. (4) Everyone stays in their respective roles. There's literally zero character development beyond folk befriending Renee or getting off'd in some regard. Kinda pathetic, but again, this is kinda expected given its source material. -- .:ENJOYMENT:. (6) I've always been a fan of isekai and similar genres long before light novels were even a thing, so I'm a sucker to try them out when I come across them. Moreso if they're actually completed works to where I'm not left hanging on a weekly or monthly webtoon's whims. Also, there were good moments in this series. One thing I wanted ends up happening, and most importantly, Renee didn't make a stupid final decision literally anywhere during the series. Sure it was almost always rushed because of this trash pacing, and at times it was instead a delayed "duh" moment 'cause of whatever, but compared to several other isekai/light novel MCs... she's definitely a lot more realistic.
