Boy moves back to his childhood home, meets with his childhood friends again, and falls in love with his best friend. Sakura Discord's basic plot is pretty paint by numbers, feel good type of stuff. Kids overcoming their problems together and becoming closer friends. But it has so much more heart than other manga of its ilk. I started reading because it looked mildly interesting, prepared to drop it within a couple of chapters should it become too same-y or tripe. But I binged the whole thing in an afternoon, because it absolutely engrossed me start to finish. The ending felt a bit rushed (which at thispoint seems to be the standard for most endings, sadly). It provided enough closure but it could've been... more. The art style is distinctive. Personally I loved it, but it may seem out of fashion or too different to some. Sakura Discord is not anything new or different (nihil sub sole novum), but it's still a great read to enjoy and pass some time.
Sakura Kousuke is a boy who strives to throw away a past mired in regret. He transfers to a new school for his second year of high school, believing it will give him a chance to come clean. Unbeknownst to him, however, the appearance of five other "Sakura"s in his class will bring the past to his present, forcing him to come to terms with himself, his old friends, and a girl who, though being Kousuke's complete opposite in terms of personality, also knows him better than anyone else. Things you should know about Sakura Discord: 1) It's drawn by the same mangaka as Jitsu wa Watashi wa (Actually, I Am), and the artwork is almost identical. Like it or hate it, the artwork is very distinct. Also, the humor is similar in both cases: lots of slapstick, lots of shouting, lots of over-the-top and exaggerated faces. 2) Unlike Jitsu wa Watashi wa, Sakura Discord has no supernatural elements. It also deals with some more serious issues (all of the characters have some reasonably weighty back stories), although it does manage to keep an appropriately light-hearted tone all the time. The focusis on overcoming our traumas with friendship and perseverance, and so it doesn't get too bogged down in the tragedy of those traumas. 3) The manga takes about a volume to really get going. Honestly, the protagonist starts out an annoying jerk, but by the end of the first volume he is kind of a cool guy, and his relationship with Nomiya has settled into a pretty good vibe. Once that happens, Sakura Discord becomes an extremely enjoyable Shounen romantic comedy manga, and stays that way right up until its clearly rushed ending. 4) And yes, the ending is rushed. It's not an awful ending. I won't give any spoilers, but this isn't one of those endings that will have you banging your head against a wall or wishing you hadn't read the manga. But anytime multiple time skips are involved in the same chapter, you know something went at least a little bit wrong. That being said, this is a very good manga. If you like the mangaka's work, or are otherwise a fan of shounen romantic comedies (Nisekoi, Parallel, Kagetora, Love Hina, etc.) then you'll enjoy Sakura Discord.
Sorry for all the readers who don't speak portuguese, but the target audience aren't you. This review is for me or any curious person who speaks portuguese. Recomendo DEMAIS.
6 people sharing the same name, "Sakura", and it being the only thing that makes them similar. A story of friendship, romance and drama. It is a manga that tackles on themes that may be relatable, and it's one of the things that makes it (for me), a really good story. The romance is one of the main topics, and it is kinda slow burn, but it isn't bad. One downside, is that the story could have been fleshed out a bit more, and with more chapters it would have been even more amazing (An example would be the younger brother introduced towards the ending). Nevertheless, its still a mangathat i'd definitely recommend.
