I read this all in one sitting, so it kept my attention and also was short enough to be a one-time read. Story 8/10 It's certainly not the first of it's kind, people who are actually animals. But it's a very soft spin on it, definitely one of my preferred shoujo-romances. Art 7/10 Not the best, but it was beautiful to look at. If at all, id stay for the art. Character 7/10 For the few characters that did get any development, it was done splendidly. Only gave it a seven because there was room for more. Enjoyment 8/10 I really love a goodshoujo- romance, and the fact the art was so beautiful too, i couldn't help but be glued to this manga from the start. Overall 8/10 Wonderfully crafted, would recommend to good friends of mine.
Kusonoki Komugi lives with her mother in Tokyo and can't get along with classmates. Because of her mother's business trip, she has to stay with her father in Hokkaido for a year. She thinks she will have opportunities to make new friends. She got to sit next to Ookami Yuu, a popular boy who tells her she smells good. One day, she discovers his secret... (Source: MU)
What makes me give 10 to this manga is purely driven by the fact that the manga deals with these amazing looking humans who can transform to wolf, fox .. The whole idea of co-existence of humans with such shape shifters thrills me. Moreover a love story between a mere human girl with one of them is just nail bitting. Although I would have loved it if the manga wouldn't have been so short as it could have continued many different leads which could have been picked up, the story was short and sweet but yes the heart wants what it wants (more on theafter story ...) Story isn't a thriller, its simple and straight with not many tangential verticals around the protagonist . Personally I like the art of this mangaka so I enjoyed the art of the manga. Learning: Things you run away are right behind you, so running away ain't a wise decision.
This is a great short manga with a wonderful emotional core. The story could have benefited from a few extra chapters, to flesh out some characters, but isn't really hindered by it's fast resolution. It's just made more dramatic. As a longtime fan of urban fantasy anything, I just loved the setting. It's realistic and peaceful, without being boring. There is something inherently cool about the idea of an extremely magical city that is also very pastoral and quiet. It just skirts most of the overplayed things people usually associate with urban fantasy, like faction war, societal manipulation and angst. I kinda feel like justtalking about how cool it is that this manga went urban fantasy without the angst. When I saw that Twilight reference with the "you smell nice..." thing I have to admit I shuddered. And then it was all because she smelled like delicious food. I just love it. And just gets better from that.. But this is a drama romance, not a comedy romance. The love story is sweet and pure without being unrealistic, and the drama, when it happens, might be based on a cliché concept ("they're from two different worlds") but is treated in a reasonable way with understandable consequences and no exaggeration for effect. It doesn't need any of that because it's very effective, engaging without going overboard, showing emotion without the need for onomatopoeia (a shoujo manga without a single "doki doki" panel!). The art is gorgeous. Great anatomy and expression, superb narrative and pacing. Also, full backgrounds with screentones added for depth. The screentones on the characters, however, are little muddy, makes it seem like everyone is always wearing grey. But this is the one single problem with the art, and I absolutely forgive it.
Watashi no Ookami-kun Manga Review By: Nogiri Youko Dated: January 6, 2020 Plot: What if there are creatures unbeknownst to us? What if on your peaceful life, suddenly, without a warning, you've come to know a secret you shouldn't have? The story is about a transferee girl from the city to the country side. While everything is going fine on her life, she accidentally knew a secret about her classmates that will brought her memories from the past. Along the way of their closeness, history was revealed, feelings changed, and love will bloom. Characters: This is one of the manga where I hope that the second guy will get the girl, unfortunately, he didn't. Guess, the only story that did that is Hirunaka no Ryuusei. I just thought that the second guy was the one who really love the heroine of the story. Sometimes, being gentle is not really attractive. Treating everyone the same makes no one special. Unlike the second guy who only have his attention with the girl. Oh, I really love Fushimi than Yuu. Art: The one I admire on this mangaka's art is the hair. It looks soft and waving. The way its created looks like its moving. It makes them really cool. Also, the sharpness on their eyes when need to, the kindness and calmness when looking at the one they cherish is reflected on their faces. Enjoyment: With only 18 chapters, if I am not mistaken, the story already touches the topics of friendship, love, history, past. It was an interesting read. Every chapter is exciting, it'll be really a great manga if its longer than what it is, I think. Ending: Please let it be the second guy, not happening. The scenario where they stand up against the one who teach them is kind of expected but that's the best option to make the manga good. It was the only outcome they need. But yeah, the heroine really have that guts to break the spell on her own, she should really have. Their teacher really is the best, his face says it all. LOL.
Actually a pretty grand romantic manga that gives off "Fruits Baskets" vibe because it's about an ordinary girl meeting a lad who is pretty much a wolf spirit type, among the rest of the other guys who are pretty much in similar positions (fox, type of raccoon, cat). Art wasn't stunning or gorgeous but was decent on the eyes for a quick 19 chapter read (it's saying 17 chapters here but it's really 19 if you go on some of the pirate sites to check out the full manga ). Fruits Baskets fans should give this a read if they have nothing to do, itis nice in a way!
