This shit is so awful its insane. For a story that starts off with a great hook and most importantly a great premise in the form of escaping an island it sounded like a great read for someone who's been reading trash isekai for a while and had a gem every now and then. However, this was not what I expected, the blatant input of sex scenes for no reason at all, the retconning to fit a new narrative, and above all, terrible terrible world-building and a terrible way of explaining everything in the story. We're introduced to this world yet we don't learn anything about it. Istill don't know where half the terms they were talking about actually mean and only realized HEAVILY KEY FACTORS in the story on the LAST COUPLE CHAPTERS. Exposition isn't the best, but not knowing what the fuck is going on for a lackluster resolution that ends on sex scene is ridiculous. This shit could have been good, I hate the word potential but it had it and completely blew it in favor of a single-minded narrative with no overarching theme and quite literally got rid of any character growth that could have happened in favor for the ending to be happy instead of make sense. I don't think anyone should read this, genuinely, but if you do let me know what you think.
Tarou Kajiura and his friends from the same folkloristic research group at Tonan University went on a trip to Ikishima island in order to pursue the origins of the myth about princess Kwannon. At the same time the villagers of Ikishima were holding the annual festival in which outsiders were forbidden to participate in since 400 years. The consequences for breaking that rule were more severe that anyone had imagined... (Source: MU)
Disclaimer: I read this with my dick turned on and brain turned off If you're here for a sexy time, read chapter 8.5, 29 and the final chapter's ending. First sexy time in chapter 8.5 is the best. Funny thing is, MC did it with a side character who will have few significance to the plot. Second sexy time in chapter 29 is quite short, and uh... flat. Final sexy time is with the "main" female character as a reward of reading through 50 chapters of bullshit. It's not that good and it's the second best sexy time. These are the only good ones, the rest are justshort teases or interrupted. Logic is murdered in this manga. Characters make dumb choices and suffer later. Plot is about preserving immortality with deities and aliens, and reincarnation. The "villain" or "mastermind" of the story is pathetic. They have no plan at all, and start panicking after setting a time bomb, then don't even try to defuse the situation. A lot of plot device or convenience too. Personality change is the most used. All the main characters can be psycho or dumbo whenever convenient. Their motives or goals are always randomized too. Sometimes, they wanna escape, sometimes, they wanna have sex and sometimes, they just do nothing at all, get carried around like a tool. Personal note: Personality switch, a well-timed exit and entrance, an arrow and bunch of psychos. Oh, don't forget the big breast classmate! She exists! Don't forget about the next ship too! <SPOILER START> You know the story is wack when it ends with an UFO soaring through the sky <SPOILER END> I am so baited. I am really just reading this for a good time. I didn't expect the manga to focus on the empty plot so much especially near the end. I only got like 3 sexy time and around 5 little teases out of 50 chapters of bullshit. I'm Reviewholic. The lengths I go through for lust.
This is the story you gotta read for the plot. It is labeled smut, but it was really interesting sci-fi for mature audiences. In some ways, it is similar to Higurashi When They Cry and Summertime Render. Some weird stuff goes on an island village that traps characters with no escape. I thought the story is really unique, I kept remembering it over the years. It scratched a really specific sci-fi itch for me. I did read a ton of sci-fi in my life, and I really enjoyed the work, which can be difficult with the amount of stuff I already saw in the genre.I just couldn't stop reading it! I am honestly surprised how long it took me to find it again, and how many similar plot summaries I read while looking, typing all the relevant tags that would totally spoil stuff for you. I am not surprised it is totally overlooked, because it does have some issues with presenting the story organically, and it was clearly promoted as smut instead of a thrilling ride it was to me , hence the high rating. It is a relatively short story and I think the potential of it was not drawn out, sadly. But if it was animated by a skilled director, I am pretty sure it would get a strong following. I am just so bummed it is not only overlooked as a whole, but also disliked by the reviewers.
I will try my best to not contain any spoilers, but if you think hints are also spoilers, there will be a bunch of them here. So...Unfortunately, after reading every single chapter, the entire story just feels like a disjointed mess with ecchi stuff thrown into the mix. In detail: Story: 3 At first, you will find that everything feels like a nice supernatural mystery, yet, it really wasn't. The story will tell you why everything happened that way it did but in a sloppy way that leaves you will no real satisfaction. Even the reason for the ecchi stuff (Which is kind of the main theme, but notreally...) is not clear nor satisfying to read through, they just did it because...? Art: 6 Well, the only reason that I give it a 6 is that the art isn't bad at all, but nothing impressive either, so...yeah...middle numbers Character: 3 It is all over the place. The main character went from a normal human being who was traumatized to a bat-shit insane person who felt the need to do whatever it takes to...escape? It was implied in the story that he could've escape in an extremely easy way, yet just because he gets to have sex, that is thrown out of the window. It is not like the villagers wanted him there either. The main bad guy or the main antagonist constantly stuck between "Okay, let's be rational", and "Oh, fuck that shit...Let's kill this fool!", and I was like "Dude, you have been doing the same shit like...a few centuries over, and you are the head of the village...Get a grip, dude...". I have more to say, but at this point, I may just as well spoil everything. Enjoyment: 3 I do not enjoy this, if I wanted ecchi stuff, I may as well read an 18+ doujin with the same plot, which there are an abundance of. The only reason I even bother to get it a 3 is because they at least give the story an opening and an ending. Overall: 3 I still appreciate the writer went the direction that created this story because it tells me what works and what doesn't in the world of writing and storytelling. There is really no reason for me to read the entire series again, even if it is for the ecchi scenes, or if there is some information that I have missed, but honestly, even had I known, I don't think it will change much of what I think about the series. But at the same time, maybe the book was right that the reason I do not enjoy this was that my own value and experience does not match the writer's or something else, but regardless, thank you for the hard work.
