This manga is... sad. I dont mean to say that the characters go through a lot of bad things nor that it makes you cry by reading it. I mean its sad because it has so much potential that was unable to be used. The plot, characters are the common type that are often used but the very good and appealing kind of common. Unfortunately the author died at the age of 29 so this manga wont be getting any more. Thats what i meant by sad. The wasted potential this had. Overall though its a good read. AND I do recomend it.
Im suprised not more people have read this, but at the same time i can see why. Only 10 chapters and 2 volumes, that is not much, especially not if the first chapters show you the picture a large living world with it's own unique features. After reading some other reviews i found out that the author died. That explains a lot, since this manga has an extremly abrupt ending. Which may really shock you since the first five chapters or so speaks of a large and interesting adventure that may go on for a few volumes or so. However, i really enjoyed it and the artstyle ispretty good.
Long ago, there was a great war between the realms of angels and demons over mankind. The demons were a wicked lot and treated humans as their toys, while the angels fought to protect humans from the demons. When the war was over the angels built a town called Ilvia to keep humanity safe against the demons. In the middle of Ilvia is a place called sanctuary where children live under the guidance of the angels. The angels teach the children they must not leave the sanctuary because the demons will get them due to being attracted to their pure souls. When the children reach there fourteenth birthday they graduate from the sanctuary and are seen off by the other children to paradise. What is paradise? All is well or is there something more sinister going on behind the scenes...
tl;dr: Interesting concepts with a pretty bad execution. This manga starts off with an interesting concept and some solid world building. I also thought the character designs were solid and though there weren't that many the basic character introductions were solid enough. The battle system too seemed like it had potential. However, it had a few major issues right off the bat. The first is that the pacing was pretty random. While they were still in the sanctuary it was decent enough, but after they left it felt like things got a lot more arbitrary and it didn't feel like it was telling a cohesive story. The other issue is the art, which was really rough and quite messy, so even with solid designs it wasn't nice to look at. It also feels like it got axed, resulting in everything it did build up never getting built upon and thus it never managing to get anywhere with most of what it looked like it wanted to and instead went into an ending that was rushed quite a bit, wherein the author does seem to manage to tie up every plot thread introduced so far it seems, but barely touching most of them and hence doing too much without doing anything properly.
Some-where in the world, there was a place with no restraints, Where everyone was free, Where none would be hurt, That's what I wanted, Somewhere, where we could be together. I cried at the end of this story, and if I sound like an uneducated bitch, then so be it. I cried at the end of this manga, not just from the ending (which was average) but from the lost potential and wept for what could have been. On the final page, reading the end where it speaks of the author, Enaga Takabatake, Rest in peace. I was not expected to be hit with a tearjerking about death, but that'swhat I get when I read this after TPN. I loved it, not for what it is, but for what it could have been. Mourn not what was here, but what has been lost, to the sands of time, and to the mortality of man.
So much potential, but the execution of the story was not the greatest. Such a unique story, good characters and I like the morals, too. The ending could have been better and longer. It feels a bit rushed. But for just 10 chapters, it follows the story pretty decent. The artstyle is pretty good, maybe not that good when it comes to the fights, as sometimes it may be hard to understand what's going on, but overall, beautiful. There is a little too much fanservice (might be a part of the artstyle, too), but not that much like it disturbs you when reading, which I believeis ok and most of the time fits the characters. The world building is pretty solid. You don't see it too often but when you do, you feel it. Did this manga have the potential to be a 10? Absolutely. I love the uniqueness of the story. Would it be easy to make it a 10? Absolutely not. Especially in just 10 chapters. Would it be good to see a longer story? Yes. Would love to see more characters and such. Do I think this manga is underrated? Yes. Too little amount of readers, and low score too. Would love to see more from the mangaka, R.I.P. Enaga Takabatake.
