If you're a big fan of vocaloid, you will have probably heard this song before/watched the video. If not, I highly recommend watching the music video before reading the manga, it's a pretty good song. Story 7/10: Based on the song from 3 vocaloids, Miku, Kaito and Luka called 'Acute' we now have this manga that is filled with jealousy, regret, loss and dark senses. The story is about Miku, Luka and Kaito as childhood friends who grow up together building a strong friendship. Kaito always took a liking to Miku but then became more interested in Luka as they grew up. Thus, creating alove triangle between them. With only 5 chapters, things start to develop quickly jealousy wise between Miku and Luka. What we see at the start is a loving, fun and happy friendship which is then ripped apart towards the end. The story doesn't sound very convincing but seeing the effects on the characters it was brings this story to life. Art 8/10: The art was really nice to look at with the character designs an all. Miku even gets some yandere eyes Character 6/10: I couldn't see the characters being likeable, not even the ones that had been torn apart the most. The let jealous overtake them and ruin what a lovely friendship. Luka, betray Miku as did Kaito. And Miku acted upon this and went completely yandere and over the top which had led to regrets in the end. Enjoyment 7/10: It's a fun read, to see what happens to the characters and how they're going to cope in this love triangle. Also to see Kaitos decision, weather he will stay with Luka or go back to how things used to be with Miku. Unfortunately it leaves you disappointed in the end. Overall 7/10: Plot and characters were a little bad, but it was effective and can be entertaining for a lot of readers. Just remember that 5 chapters with a story like this doesn't go a long way.
Hatsune Miku and Megurine Luka have grown up very close to each other. After an orphan, Kaito, moves into a nearby children's home, Miku and Luka take him under their wing, and the three vow to stay together. However, as they grow up, their feelings change. Miku finds herself romantically attracted to Kaito. She admits this to Luka, but when Luka informs her that she holds the same feelings toward Kaito, the two could become rivals at any time. However, with both Miku and Luka unwilling to risk their friendship, they vow that neither of them will ever confess their feelings. But will someone break the promise, and if so, at what cost? This is one of the best vocaloid songs and it could have made a fantastic manga, but this just wasn't developed well. The art is gorgeous, but there's so many loose ends in story and character. What in the world is going on with Kaito's backstory? I don't even know where to begin asking the questions. His father stabbed him as a child and he forgot about this up until now? It adds nothing really to the story and I just didn't get this. The love triangle is very, very complex, and everyone seems to have a different story and a different take on what'sgoing on. It makes for interesting storytelling, but three unreliable narrators in a book that's only a little over a hundred pages can get tedious and difficult to understand after a while. The ending is extremely ambiguous and not really much of an ending. It would have made more sense for Miku and Kaito to have died, and Luka to have killed herself afterwards. The ending is a very unclear cliffhanger that just didn't make sense in the context of the story. We still don't know who Kaito chooses. Miku slowly going mad was a really cool thing to see though, and I always enjoy a dark, twisted one-shot. I just wish they had spent a little more time on this and done more editing so it would make more sense.
This is a great manga if you like Vocaloid. Especially if you like the song Acute. Story: I was surprised how detailed a Vocaloid song can be when it gets transfered in to a manga. It's very accurate to the song. It also more in depth in to the story of the characters. Art: I like the art but I feel like Miku and Luka look the same. Characters: I liked most of the characters. But I honestly think that Luka's reaction was well.... If I was Luka I wouldn't be so forgiving of Miku. Enjoyment: I liked it but I feel like miku's change of personalitychanges too fast.
Before I write my review, you MUST watch the music video for this song (with subtitles if you can't understand Japanese) because while the manga does an okay job of explaining the story, it's so fast paced that you need background knowledge. The song is called "Acute" by Kurousa-P. Alright, I'm going to say it. This manga is absurd, and not necessarily in a good way. The art is pretty, no doubt, but the story is what bothers me. It gave me that feeling of, "Well, that went from 1-100 pretty quick" because things just start happening, and character's personalities change rapidly, and then you discover justhow edgy this thing really is. I couldn't find Miku likable by the end, Luka seemed dumb, and I didn't really mind Kaito. he was okay. But honestly, this is something where I'm not going to tell you to not read it, but instead I'll tell you- read it for yourself. It's absurd, it's dumb, and honestly makes no logical sense, but if nothing else read it for the art.
As a VOCALOID fan, I was shocked to find out something like this exist. Coming from such a great song about a love triangle going downhill, I thought the story would be awesome and heartbreaking as well. It was heartbreaking, but I wish that the story gone off a little better. But maybe it's because I thought of something different in my head. I gotta admit, KAITO being an orphan and hanging out with Miku and Luka as his childhood friends was a great concept. But to me, the execution in the story was decent at best. Didn't really tickle me fancy. But I did likeit when Luka had her moments and regrets, that was touching and the ending part where things get more dramatic and sad were pretty intriguing. I would feel angry about KAITO having to cheat on Miku with Luka, but in the manga, KAITO didn't really have a romantic relationship with either Luka or Miku which was WAY different than in the song itself when KAITO flat out cheats on Miku with Luka. I may have some mixed feelings about this book, but the book didn't really insult me as much, maybe the song cause of what was changed but not in a harmful way. Other than that, the story is harmless, the characters were decent at best (Except maybe Luka got a lot more depth than the others) and the artstyle is nice. So yeah, not really good, but not straight up terrible.
