Seemed like a promising counterpoint to Teppuu. Then the mangaka solved the lack of a concrete antagonist by inserting one of my least favorite archetypes, The Walking Bitch Toggle, into the story. You may have seen this archetype before. Seems like a normal person until five pages later when someone does something minor that pisses them off and suddenly The Walking Bitch Toggle's sole purpose in life is dedicated to destroying that person and everything they love. Creating a character who is ridiculously hateable is not how you make a good antagonist. Even Nintendo walked it back with Lusamine. But I digress. My enjoyment ofthe manga plummeted with the introduction of a single character and if I hadn't picked this for the 2018 Manga Reading Challenge, I wouldn't have read it.
Andou Hanaka wanted to become stronger because she thought she couldn't protect her friend from bullies. Now as she enters high school, she seeks to enter many of the martial arts clubs in her school. Unfortunately for her, many of the clubs reject her due to her frail and small size. She just wants to be stronger, but is it going to be impossible for her? All of this changes as she encounters her classmate Yoshino "Koha" Koharu. Koha introduces Hanaka to the world of MMA. Hanaka learns that martial arts is designed to make the weak stronger. Her aspirations of becoming stronger may come true as she ventures into the world of mixed martial arts. (Source: MangaHelpers)
I really enjoy reading this and wish it went longest. Itβs a good classic underdog about someone starting as a zero and throughout the story she became strong, sure she didn't end the series as the strongest but Hanaka is on her way there. I like how the story doesn't shy away from how brute the fight gets, seeing the characters get punched was really uncomfortable, itβs a good way. I really wish we get to see other fights. The series could have gotten off longest as we see more characters and see Hanaka learn more and stronger through more fights until she gets to thatfight. I still enjoy it.
Among all the pros and cons within this manga, the more evident and big weakness is the fact that is a very short story that deserve more. And the strong aspect, living in the shadow of that weakness, is the amount of potention that is put on the table. The presentation is not strong, aside from the main character and her rival in the 2 late books. Again the fault falls on how short this manga is. I can see the build up for the allies, for the future rivals, for the protagonist future and mma universe. Those 21 chapters really make me want more. Ienjoy the fighting scenes and the characters desings (simple, but straight). If i have to choose a flaw it would be the lack of muscular evidence on their body desing, aside for some really beefy, big characters. With you want a good story to pass time, give it a shoot because is worth it, but be aware that the feeling of incompliteness will expect you in the end.
