Sooo... THIS IS COMPLETE MADNESS, and I wont spoil anything to you, you have to read this manga. If you watched the anime and didnt like it pleeeeease give this a second chance; if you somehow liked the anime or though it was ok you'll like this a lot better; and if you dindt watch the anime just DONT DO IT and read the manga instead (TRUST ME ON THIS ONE). I read this after watching the anime hopping for another instance of that "so bad its good" kinda feel, but I ended up disappointed. The manga turned out being unironically good (very solid in fact). It has some serious flaws of course (witch I'll leave you to discover), but it shows that the people behind it really cared about it, this project is someone's baby. This is the brainchild of some madman, and the moment you pick it up, you are in someone else's world, its complete insanity, and I LOVE IT. So, without further to do, lets check the bulletpoints! Story: Its all over the place, there is a lot of it, and its all just crazy. It starts with a simple enough premise, but as the plot unfolds it derails into complete and utter rampaging clusterf***. The weird thing is that all of this madness was planned from the very beginning, its twists and turns where all planned beforehand witch make it kinda of impressive than this kinda of madfest were not made as it went on. You can never guess what's coming up next, it really throw your expectations out of the window sometimes because of the "no one would be crazy enough to go THAT way" factor. Its entertaining and imaginative for sure. Art: I would say its very solid. During the first chapters there are some inconsistencies in the art style, but as the series picks up its all pretty good and consistent. Character: Here is where the anime fails and the manga succeeded. They had their time to grow! You get to care for them not out of artificially forced pity derived from the initial shock value, but out of having the time to get to know them, you want to see them succeed. That apply specially to our protagonist, Aya really does grow as a character. Enjoyment: What can I say here? Its just really entertaining! I found myself chanting at the screen a couple of time at certain moments, just of how invested I was. For me, it was a blast. AWARDS TIME! -JOJO REFERENCES! Of course, I spoted a few. They are always welcome. -SOMEBODY CARED! This is a work of insanity and passion. Thats something I can respect and enjoy. And the final award: -SOMEONE FIX THIS! I think that if some the flaws are ironed out, this could be a genera breaking masterpiece! There is a lot of creativity and good elements in here, there is more value to be made. So well, this is it. Esa fue mi reviu de majó yoyo sait para comodor 64, Y espero que les aya gustado. Chau!
Asagiri Aya is a young girl who has fallen victim to bullies at her school. Looking for a way to escape her troubles, she looks to the internet for distraction, when a mysterious website called "Magical Girl Site" appears. Simply viewing the page is all it takes to hurtle Aya headlong into the deadly world of the Magical Girl Apocalypse. There, it's fight or die, against a seemingly endless array of savagely adorable, frilly-skirted killing machines, each armed with magical powers and an unquenchable thirst for blood and chaos. **spoiler warning** The idea/concept is really nice, but all the writing is very horrible and overall disgusting. Who makes the protagonist and love-interest lesbians and fall in love, only 50-100 chapters in to reveal that they are blood-related twins? Are we romanticizing incest now? Is literally everyone just ignoring that they're twin sisters?? Next is the male characters, I gotta be honest there is no positive male character that isnt disgusting at all. Most of the men are all abusive. Every gay male character was seen as a sexual harasser/rapist. And the only black man in the ENTIRE manga is shown to be a pedophilic gayrapist. And the way he's drawn uses racist stereotypes which is not good!!! The nongay male character, Aya's brother? Sexually abused her. And he was redeemed at the end. Why was he redeemed?? Why are we supposed to sympathize with a sexually abusive brother who apparently has a god complex? And the boy who had a crush on Aya in the beginning of the manga?? That was her actual blood-related father in disguise!! What! Why would you write that! The only good thing about this manga was making one of the main characters a transgirl. She's seen as a girl and not a boy. Her best friend genders her correctly and so does her mom. Her mom is accepting and loving. I didnt like that she was used for the "only boys can defeat the King" but she didnt defeat the king as another magical girl used a sex-change magical girl ability to defeat the king. Shit writing!!! Excessive usage of shock means that the writer hasnt thought out or fleshed out the story good enough, and has to resort to shock value.
Oh man. How do i even begin in expressing my thoughts regarding this story ? As in like, regarding ALL of it ? This manga story was picturing itself as the NEXT Puella Magi Madoka Magica but in reality, this manga is the magical girl equivalent of that Nutcracker movie. You know, the one where the rats are Nazis aka Nutcracker The Untold Story/3D. There are many problems with the story. 1) I know humans are supposed to be evil as not each or every one of us is a perfect saint but is mankind really supposed to be THIS evil ?????? Most of the antagonists or in laymanterms, villains, in OTHER more well-known magical girls are evil ENOUGH but the acts that these girls had to suffer through just seems like OVERKILL !!! One has to wonder whether the creator of this manga feels DIRTY in writing or illustrating all of THIS !!!! 2) I know that this manga was considered by many right now as a contender to Puella Magi but i truly am sorry as i find this manga absolutely disgusting !!! All of the chapters are legitimately disgusting !!!!! Seeing all of those cute and innocent young girls either turn into psychotic and insane monsters or losing their will to be happy and enjoy life just makes me sick to my stomach !!!!! Also, the implied idea that other manga artists would be potentially inspired by this, as in like other people would want to replicate it, it's just.....just.....GAH !!!!!!!!!! 3) For a manga that's all about magical girls, people who read this complete story are NOT gonna think about young and cute teenage girls using magic to fight the bad guys and save the day ! They're just gonna think about all the terrible things that the worst of humanity are capable of doing !!!!! Now, one might wanna argue that the creators of this manga are trying to take people into the darkest regions of humanity so that the happy scenes seem happier. A true vision and work of a great and up and coming artist. But sadly, i find that the manga is coming across LESS like he wants to make the readers feel good and MORE like he just wants to stand out by using shock tactics. 4) I just wish that this manga and its related side story need to add a lot more substance to itself than just shock value. Shock is nothing without some form of intelligence behind it, and that's what draws everyone in. I know that the author is not REALLY trying to draw "everyone" in. Only just the gifted few who can see how unique he is. But honestly, by trying to be "unique" instead of being himself, he might be like everyone else trying to do the same. Conclusion While one might like to point out that the author just wanted to dive into the dark moments so that the happy moments seemed all the more important but judging from the content, i could see that the author didn't understand the happy moments. Heck, he didn't really understand the dark ones. Shock value is fine if the purpose outweighs the offense. It's supposed to provoke the viewers, giving way to a positive idea or even make readers feel better by laughing at how shocking it is. However, it takes a lot of thought and a lot of skill to pull off correctly. When you focus too much on the negative without really exploring or understanding it, you get something that makes people not only feel dumber but also kind of dirty. The intent to bring something positive gets lost in the need to make yourself feel important. But honestly, the same can be said for also being TOO positive. That can come across as mockingly condescending. Somewhere in-between, there's a balance that's tricky to hold, but can still be accomplished. How will one know what negative things and what positive things to focus on? Well, to be honest, i don't actually know the answer to that question. But i DO know is that It's different to everyone. People always go through different experiences, so they're always inspired by different things. Even those things ALWAYS change. People, ideas, even places. Just always do your best and make an effort in trying to get inspired by those who understand said concepts better than you.
This is the review I wish I had read before going all into this manga: DO NOT READ THIS, THIS ISN'T TECHNICALLY A STORY ON ITS OWN. I will give a full review but firt I'll try to explain what I mean: the ending killed this manga. (from here on, I do not consider this to be a spolier nor it be formulated as one, but just to play it safe I'll warn for POSSIBLE SPOILERS) The story hooks you up for 138 chapters only to throw, at the very last one, a "oh actually this is kind of a SEQUEL to another very long and convoluted mangafrom the same author and you won't understand A THING if you haven't read that one". 138 chapters mate, 138. Not only that, but the ending doesn't... really happen? You're told what happens but you don't see it play into action, so double bummer. (minor possible spoilers OVER) All in all I have really conflicting feelings over this manga (I actually put off reading it for years, only to read it as a celebration for graduating college): ( I will not discuss incest, rape and such because it has already been mentioned and many people don't care so read the following as "I'm conflicted even if there wasn't none of that stuff") The art is very nice and has a bit of an unique feeling; while some say it's odd at times, I think it's part of the author's style, so there's that on one hand. I liked the characters, most are well executed (except the ones that the mangaka takes from previous works...) and their actions make sense for them, even the gruesome parts or the slurs. The story is... a whole different thing. I loved it at first, and I wanted to believe in it even when it had just a few chapters left and multiple plot points left untouched. I truly did, believe me when I say I was truly rooting for the story, no matter how simple, straight-foward or overly complicated (paradoxically) it was. But ripping us all out of an ending, just being told what supossedly happen honestly killed anything the story could,ve possibly had for it and saddened me to no end (it also ruined the characters, because they were left with no further development and things were taken into... other characters' hands). I literally had to check here on MAL if I had accidentally skipped any chapters or was being trolled. I was not, that the story, that was the ending. I hope I wrote this thing right this time and I hope whoever is behind the screen, thinking "oh this could be a nice, rewarding read, I should dedicate my very last moments of free time before entering the work force to this" gets saved of the sadness I have been experiencing ever since I read that last chapter. All in all, it could have been a very good manga but it woke up and chose murder.
Mahou shoujo site was an anime I saw 3 years ago or so and I liked it.I didn't think of reading the manga ,because I was like ''A second season might be released'' . A month ago or so , I learnt that the anime changed stuff from the manga so I realised that there'll be no season 2 and I decided to read the manga. The story was nice,it had an interesting premise. For sure it was edgy like REALLY edgy ,but I enjoyed it ,I guess. A thing I kinda didn't like was the conclusion (2 last chapters) ,in which characters from the mangaka's previousmanga appeared and somehow a connection between the two series was evoked. What can I say ,maybe people who have read both series actually enjoyed that thing, but it felt off to me. The art was nice and clean ,which made mahou shoujo site an easy read. The characters were fine I guess, some of theme were likeable and were surrounded by their own mysteries .I felt that some others could have been managed better though. Overall I enjoyed the series ,it was a nice read and I would recommend it to people who are into magical girls and edgy series
