i really enjoyed this manga for a multitude of reasons 1. the art, while clearly inspired by junji ito, is amazing and adds to the scary elements of the story 2. the mix of horror, comedy and very slight romance is nice and while it is scary the light-heartedness counters it perfectly 3. the story, while usually i like it when stories have consequences e.g someone gets possessed one chapter and is therefore possessed in the next, this manga only does this during arcs and i think it adds to the manga as a whole, while usually (in my opinion) doing that takes away from the story andfinally 4. the characters, the main character is likeable, but not it the stereotypical sense. he's a very normal person, who kinda lacks some emotion but still does the right thing. And don't get me started on the main girl, she, while barely if ever speaking, is one of my favourite manga girls ever and is big epic sauce. the side characters are pretty cool as well and are well rounded, the dark idol being my favourite :)
All throughout his life, Jun Kushida has been able to see deceased people. After the death of his childhood friend Ryouko Hayakawa, Kushida notices that, unlike the other ghosts, she follows him everywhere. Although Ryouko never speaks, she gestures in order to help Kushida escape terrifying situations that his eerie powers will not let him avoid. After a friend convinces him, Kushida reluctantly joins the local History Club. As the club investigates spine-tingling past events, Kushida wonders if it is the right place for his psychic abilities and meek nature. Life-threatening circumstances only seem to increase, but Ryouko is always there to point out exactly what will save Kushida's life and assist him in unraveling the horrors of the world. This manga more than any other I've read forced me grow attached to each of the characters, even the majorly flawed ones. While this isn't so much the case at the start of the manga, the horror elements are perfectly subverted with light comedy with a lot of thanks to megchans excellent scanlations. Even the side characters are so lovable and characters from past chapters are often brought back for later conflicts, so if you have a soft spot for any of the excellently written side characters, you might be able to see them again. Although the abruptending leaves a little to be desired, it's really nice to see how each character grows by the end. I haven't even mentioned another great part of the manga which is the multitude of interesting paranormal concepts that it explores. Each conflict that the characters have to struggle through is exciting and this is especially the case for the multi-chapter arcs that are sprinkled throughout the manga. Possibly the most important aspect of this manga that allows it to shine in the way that it does is Uguisu's excellent facial expressions that perfectly communicates how each character is feeling about the various predicaments they get pulled into throughout the manga. I wasn't expecting this during the beginning of the manga, but all these aspects being so masterfully weaved together is what makes Shibito no Kow wo Kiku ga Yoi one of my favorite manga of all time.
This series is very good Art: The art looks very distinctive and good. I think a big part of what makes horror manga scary is how facial expressions are drawn and this manga does that very well. While most of the time the faces look pretty normal when a character is f**kd up then their face is a perfect of mixture of normal looking and over expressive and it has like an uncanny valley effect. Also I like how the background is always really grainy and the sides/top and bottom of panel are much darker than the middle so it gives the feeling of isolation. The goreis super gorey too which is great. Characters: The main character is kind of a b**tch but thats ok bcuz i am too. The main thing the series does well with characters is that a lot of the supporting characters act in really trashy ways. They are never really met with consequences, and due to the episodic nature of the series they kind of just move on. I think it is great bcuz it gives the series a lighthearted feel and makes it funny which contrasts with the horror. Story: The overarching story is not very interesting but many of the individual episodes are fun Enjoyment: I enjoyed Overall: 10/10
you will hear the voice of the dead it a master take on a horror slice of life. You follow the protagonist living his life as someone who can see dead people powered with disgustingly amazing artwork and funny impulse here and there. the good thing about this manga is it doesn't take it too seriously and gave an episodically kinda plot though it stems arc to arc. I really like the 3 main cast with each other personality actually complement eachother as they go to some scooby doo kinda plot. the bad thing about the manga is the author lost her charm a fewtimes in the middle. The author makes this manga out of the fly with the mindset it will be 1 book maximum, it goes in to 79 chapter, a lot of story goes from horror to just scifi a few times. side note is the author is really funny, her author note are actually worth reading as she jokes along. i maybe bias on this review since the comedy aspect of the manga/author style of comedy actually my cup of tea overall a good casual read
