Doors of Chaos is kind of weird mixture between shoujo and shounen manga, to the point at which I’m not exactly sure which one of those it wanted to be more. It is somehow violent as you would expect from a shounen, but it also has the “girl protagonist surrounded by bishounens” as you would expect from a shoujo. But it also has a fanservice of the girl characters and almost nudity. The arstyle too is on the edge of both shounen and shoujo styles. It confuses me. But that is not the only thing that’s confusing here, the main problem is that the wholestory is confusing. It doesn’t really bother to explain setting much and just throws what ends up feeling as random scenes at the reader. The whole plot end up being convoluted and not very rememberable – not because it’s plain but because I’m not sure what I was supposed to be remembering. I’ve failed to catch the point of the story and if I had to put together the synopsis I would be unable to do so. That said, the art does look good and with better writing the author could have some potential. Too bad this is her only manga. Also, English-only readers beware, as only two out of three volumes were released in English (unlike other languages) and as there is currently no fantranslation of the last volume you might end up being stuck unable to finish this manga.
Only the twins Clarissa (open) and Mizeria (close) control the Four Doors that protect the world from descending into chaos. When Rikhter, their guardian, kidnaps Clarissa, he weakens the Door of Chaos and demons begin to pour through, threatening to destroy being to pour through, threatening to destroy the entire kingdom. Will Mizeria find her sister in time to close the door and restore order to the world? (Source: Tokyopop)
