Since no one has written a review for what has been one of my most enjoyable reads in recent years, I thought I'd give a stab at it. To cover some surface points quickly, Ozaki Akira's art is visually pleasing and perfectly suited to the plot. Haru x Kiyo is a genuinely hilarious series, and Ozaki's art and paneling skillfully deliver the jokes. And now to the main reason I wrote this: The reason Haru x Kiyo holds a special place in my heart is because it has a solid center. While I could nitpick and point out a couple of characters (the older brother and the chibigirl, for those who have read it) are drawn out needlessly for drama, I was hardly ever bothered by it because Koharu and Kiyoshiro handled their relationship so well. To put it simply, Koharu and Kiyoshiro love, respect and trust each other. Which is an easy thing to say, but a much harder thing to stand by in a shoujo series. But Ozaki-sensei does it so skillfully you're left wondering why other series have such a difficult time of it. Not once does one accuse the other of cheating because of being caught in a bad situation, not once does one not apologize when a situation goes awry. Through every conflict, Koharu and Kiyoshiro treasure each other and that holds the chaotic cast and plot together.
Although Koharu is a little taller than the average person. She's a 15-year-old girl who lives a much simpler life than the average person. Having no experience with love, she thought she'd spend her days peacefully with her group of ordinary friends. However, a destined encounter will change Koharu...!! (Source: Summer Rain)
A shitty manga disguised as a gem. FL is strong for a big part of the story. ML is developing splendidly for the whole manga. It seems like everything is perfect at first BUT- and a big but- FL turns into a shoujo-princess in chapter 35 and ruined the manga. *disclaimer: contains descriptions of artificial drama not important to the story, don't worry.* FL was quite interesting in her dedication to ML and a breath of fresh air- not getting swayed by any hot dude like all other shoujo-princesses. Most of the male characters are awful and annoying but that isn't even part of the reason themanga failed. In chapter 34 ML leaves for 3 months and FL is still true to her character. Suddenly after one chapter, in chapter 35, FL for no reason has a mental breakdown and emotionally cheats with 2nd ML and considers further cheating. The whole chapter she lets him do anything he wants to her and hurts ML over and over. She just randomly turns into this meek, slutty mess. I was left speechless. What just happened in these 25 pages? And suddenly it is over and everyone is happy again. It was like one intense fever dream. An action movie on 2x speed. Transformers- but even more BANG. The characters were different and weird. The dynamics, mostly between ML and FL, were uncomfortable. Is this right? Did I forget everything I just read in 2 minutes? I woke up and realized- this is it. The author failed and couldn't progress and finish the manga properly. It was like reading another work. Just to finally finish it up. And it was awful. The author took everything the manga had going for it and took a piss on it. I would rather leave an ambiguous ending than ruin a whole work, shame.
*THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILER* This is my first manga review ans it's a romance one... -I'm still new to writing reviews -Story- We have our typical story, Main boy and Main girl gets rejected by their respective crush. And the Main boy helped the girl out, after a couple of chapters they start to get to know each other more and more. The author added a lot of characters to make the story, but it ended by making it slowly gets less interesting. Plus the mc is short as hell and the girl is a titan. -Art- Not the worst I've seen, it was decent but I feel like some ofthe character designs were a bit too simple. -Character- The Boy mc was really sassy and annoying. I could never anticipate what he was going to do and he didn't seem to really like the girl. His design is basic, black hair, glasses and short. the girl mc, was probably the best character even though she was dumb at some points, for exemple, letting the mf that bullied her be her friend and letting him hit on her while she was with the mc, the mc needed to tell her to stop and she still continued to create oppurtinities for the other guy to try getting with her. The shimura guy, worst charcater ever, you can't like this guy, I was so happy that in the last chapter he dissapeared. We have the chibi girl that randomly at the end of the story randomly appears and has feelings for the mc, she's annoying has hell and has somewhat no importance to the story. The other characters are just there to drag the plot and make funny situations. -Enjoyement- Man this manga in the beggining was so entertaining and enjoyable, but as the chapter went it was starting to be redudant and just always the same thing with the same charcaters over and over again. -Overrall- it was an average manga, but I still enjoyed seeing there pure relationship grow stronger and stronger, I kind of liked the ending. (would've loved to see them get married and have giant kids)
