Wow, that is outstanding! That’s the idea that kept pulsing through my brain after I’ve read the Drag-On Dragoon Shi ni Itaru Aka. It’s something ground-, mind- and everythingintheworldbreaking. Yoko Taro – the master of humans’ hearts dark corners this time has brought to us something as unique and breathtaking as it is flawless in its own madness. The beauty of this creation can not be equal to any other manga, because it is indeed colossal and unrepeatable. The diamond that makes Drag-On Dragoon series a work of genius is not the storyline, but the characters. Sick, twisted and bloodthirst “heroes” that will set the wholeworld on fire just to achieve their own goals: desperate attempts of One to redeem the sins of his past, sadistic and psychopathic nature of Nero – will drag you into furious whirlpool of human greed, lust and hate. Not to mention unrestrained, impulsive and lunatic secondary characters that will make this cocktail of blood, pain and sexual arousal taste even better. The art style – dynamic, brutal and gory only underlines the Yoko Taro’s dark fantasy genre and makes it look like an abyss of human tortured souls who’re suffocating in their own desires and thirst for more. Absolutely f***ing gorgeous! The ending is just perfect. Best violent epilogue I could ever imagine for the best full of violence story. This manga is more than just enjoyable. I’ve consumed it in one piece and was much more than satisfied with the “meal”. In fact, I was dope – that’s how satisfied I was. Is it great and worthy of wasting time reading it? Hell goddamn yeah! Will you recommend it? Billion times YES. This is exactly what an anime industry needs: a fresh look at the world that shows the true colors of human nature and does not try to mask any ugly sides of our hearts. Especially recommended for true fans of brutality, sexual abuse and mindbending dose of madness in anime. P.S. Recommend reading it when you’re angry and pissed off, if you really want to get high with it!
The first portion of the manga takes place three years before the original Drakengard. One, along with his elven companion Nero, travel through Midgard killing all those that suffer from the Red Eye disease, eventually killing the current head of the Cult of Watchers, Fey. The second portion of the manga consists of a flashback that takes place six years before the original Drakengard, on the day of Caim's birthday. It details the spread of the Red Eye disease throughout Caerleon and the death of Caim's parents at the hands of Legna (Source: Drakengard Wikia)
I've been recently beating all of Yoko Taro's games from drakengard 1 to nier automata in release order, this manga I can say that it fits the tone of those games perfectly. The plot tries to tie in both drakengard 3 and 1 while updating a bit of the lore, we are able to know how the cult of the watchers came to be and Caim's tragic past that turned him into the cold blooded killer with almost no feelings that we knew in the first game. One alert I want to give any of you is that this isn't for the faint of heart this mangafeatures some gruesome death and rape scenes. The main characters I can't say that are the most likeable but this is something Yoko Taro is known for most of his main characters are to put it lightly not so good people. I think this can be enjoyed without playing the games but you'll lose some context that would make a more worthwhile experience. In my opinion if you have the chance or opportunity play drakengard 3 before reading this.
I want to say this was weird but... Yoko Taro things by definitions are weird. I really wanted to to put a 7/10 but... But the ending pissed me off so bad, I screaming to myself "WHY" in different language because of the pain I was feeling. I happen to love emotional trauma. 8/10. (((Spoiler of the ending under this))) If you read this manga I'm gonna assume you've played Drakengard 3. I loved One from the moment I saw him in the game. I loved his sister, One. I loved them both. And I was eager to know what happened after sister One's death. I really loved this characterbecause It was all I had left after One died. WHY.
A pretty good manga. Honestly I was shocked by its part of violence and sex... But it's okay as long as they meant something. It is part of the DOD series but I haven't read its prequels. But it's still outstanding. Character: 7/10 Nice characterization. I really dont want to see too many complex roles in only 3 volumes. Well this manga is pretty good, two main characters with easy names to remember and distintive features. But nothing special...It is reasonable but, emm, normal. Art: 6/10 It truly has some good storyboarding. The violence and sex parts are quite cool in this manga(I can accept though I was shockedin the beginning). But some parts are a bit... overdone. Some scenes in the manga were initially confusing for me(I think they might be too messy). Story: 7/10 It is quite a complete story though it is part of the DOD series. It has good plots and has something I wasn't expecting. Enjoyment: 5/10 Quite a good manga. But I felt just......normal. Yes it has some cool plots but also has some parts that make me confused. I wondered if there was something meaningful more than just the fights and war. Well...Nothing special in this part.
