I want to say that this manga is a perfect 10 with no flaws much like Sakamoto himself but unlike the titular character, it falls just a bit short in every way. Art: Volumes covers can be quite deceiving as volume covers show in this case. While it's not terrible, it's hardly good either. There's bad perspective all over the place, the variety in faces is rather minimal when not exaggerated for comedy and facial expressions come from a very limited when not specifically exaggerated. As this a comedy manga I think some of this can be discounted since at times bad art can onlymake things funnier. However rigid expressions sometimes do the opposite. What I'll not though is that it doesn't shy away from some difficult poses which alongside perspective is a difficult thing to draw right. Aside from that nothing special, backgrounds are about average so not much to say about the. Story: comedy of Sakamoto is as stated in the synopsis. He's just too good! You might already think "oh, another one joke comedy, how original" to which I'd say be sour somewhere else. While yes, the punchline is always that Sakomoto is perfect at absolutely everything, it's the situations in which he excels that makes it funny. Have you ever seen a grade schooler rent adult video while hiding his real age with Bond level calculation and agility? How about hiding from lovestruck housewife by pretending to be transported inside a tv? I doubt it and Sakamoto is all about this. Excelling at mundane to unusual tasks in unexpected and hilarious ways. I say hilarious but your mileage might wary as with any comedy manga and since Sakamoto doesn't offer anything but gags it will very much decide how much you'll like it. Personally, while this manga offers a constant barrage of comedy, only a part of it resonated with and made me laugh while everything else usually just fell flat. Fun factor: being only 4 volumes long and therefore not taking much more than 3 hours to read I think it's a very worthwhile read. Check first few chapters if you like the humor and if do, I'm sure you'll enjoy the rest of it.
High school student Sakamoto is the definition of perfection. Good looks, intelligence, athleticism, kindness—he has it all! Everywhere he goes, all the ladies love him and all the boys are mad with jealousy. No amount of tricks or traps can ensnare Sakamoto as he evades and outmaneuvers his critics with ease; not even a male model can stand against his cool and collected demeanor as he glides through life with grace and elegance. Whatever situation he's in, Sakamoto will overcome anything in absolute perfection. [Written by MAL Rewrite] Included one-shot: Volume 1: Katahaba Hiroshi (Broad Shoulders Hiroshi)
Here's my take after reading all 24 enigmatic chapters of Sakamoto Desu Ga? by Nami Sano. Have you heard of the guy in class 1-2? He's so majestic, he's amazing, and he is the epitome of perfection in every way. Have you heard of Sakamoto? The story revolves around Sakamoto and the people that admire him, adores him, envies him, and try to outdo him in and out of their class 1-2. It is fun to read how Sakamoto handles tight situations with ease and beauty, and how he makes simple mundane tasks become awesome and reach a level of refinement that only a paragon like him cando. I would say that the art put into the story was great and most of the characters were given time to shine, second only to Sakamoto of course which makes them memorable one way or another. What I like about the story is it does not take itself so seriously and loves to play around with the concept of a godlike character in a simple setting like a classroom. It was not laggy and it neatly concludes each chapter that you can enjoy whenever you want to read something light and fun. Although that is also the problem that it carries with it; the simplicity of the plot and the short run of the manga. But do not be misled by this since I appreciate how entertaining the manga is. With that said, I would give Sakamoto Desu ga? 8 dodged pies out of 10.
