Imagine being a guy that is involved in a horrific traffic accident. You wake up from a year long coma and everyone thinks your dead but what’s worse is that you have a girl's face. That’s the basic setting for this hilarious Gender Bender, Romantic, Comedy. The stupid story for Pretty Face started incredibly well, as most of the guys reading this will be able to understand how Randou (male protagonist) feels to be forced into this situation. After the initial beginning, the story just becomes a bunch of random events about Randou trying to keep his true identity hidden. This can be pretty difficult whenthere’s a worrisome thing between his legs and it leads to some absurd comedy. The characters involved in the story are your typical batch that are found in certain shounen, romance manga but the one the stands out the most has to be Randou (Yuna). As a guy reading this, I could definitely understand how Randou must feel, being in these kinds of situations. With a great story, great comedy and great characters this manga was somewhat let down by its mediocre artwork. When not much was happening it was okay however when there’s a lot of action, on a page, it can be a challenge to visualize the scene. Overall Pretty Face proved to be a very enjoyable manga and is probably one of the best in the Gender Bender genre. No matter how unbelievable the story can get, it always does a good job making these seem convincing, like how only Randou’s face is a girl but the rest of the body is his. Well solely as a comedy this manga is a must read but like many other Rom/Coms, but the romance barely plays any part in the story. ^_^
Randou Masashi is a brash karate star who strikes fear in everyone around him. But despite his intimidating presence, he is secretly in love with the sweet and beautiful Rina Kurimi. Unfortunately, Randou is involved in a horrific bus accident, which leaves him comatose and with a disfigured face. A year later, he awakes to discover something utterly shockingβhis face now resembles Rina's! Randou learns that he has been under the care of a surgeon named Jun Manabe, who reconstructed Randou's face based on a picture he had of Rina. Moreover, Randou is presumed dead, and his parents have moved away as a result. Distraught, Randou crosses paths with Rina and is mistaken for her twin sister Yuna, who fled from her house two years ago. Although Randou initially wished to restore his face, seeing Rina elated makes him reconsider his decision. However, a boy disguising himself as a girl is as absurd as it sounds, and being surrounded by troublesome individuals only makes it more difficult. Nevertheless, Randou is adamant about concealing his identity until he finds the real Yuna. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Story "Pretty Face" follows a tradition of absurd manga storylines, such as 'Tuxedo Gin and A.I. Love You," that have never been adapted as an anime. Regardless, these absurd romantic comedies, "Pretty Face" included contribute greatly to the genre of comics known as anime. Thanks to Yasuhiro Kano, the author, do we now fear bus accidents for more reason than just death, could we really become a member of the opposite gender because of such an event? Kano-sensei says, "YES!" Art Drawing quality in this series is good but not extrodinary. Many character designs seem generic, in fact i could argue that they all have the same facewith different hair pieces, and I'm not just talking about the twins. Despite this, many of the characters are very cute. Also, fight scenes are done very well, whenever Randou/Yuna creams someone I really feel the pain. He/she is very strong... Character The characters themselves do at times follow typical manga formulas but overall are great. Randou is interesting because he has to become a woman, in more aspects than he'd like. The transformation from fumbling over bra hooks to having to remind himself he has a penis is a real journey. Rina is a better example of a generic character. She is your typical girl who obsesses over those she cares about more than herself (See Aoi-chan/ Ai Yori Aoshi). it does get to the point where it is a bit annoying but she has her little charms. the real appeal behind Rina is her relationship with her, or at least who she think is her sister, Yuna, who is actually Randou. it's great to see how intended sisterly love can be misinterpreted. poor Randou... Overall "Pretty Face" is a great series to read casually. It's mostly composed of short little stories that at the same time warm your heart and tickle your funny bone [and another bone if you catch my drift ;)]. I definitely think anyone could enjoy it if they are a fan of the genre. it's also a great way to introduce younger people to manga.
This manga was Hilarious, i laughed over and over again. This is about guy who had his face melt down because of an accident and get's face change to his love. and the conflict between the Two is so funny. and since the main character is karate Champion he protect his love one with it's monstrous strength. I Highly recommand This anime if you like Romance. (it has slight ecchi part)(Also if you Liked this manga I Recommend Mx0 {the same author})
Story: 8 Alright if you're reading this you already know what Pretty Face is all about. That being said I have to admit that the set-up for the manga was more than a little bit ridiculous and highly unlikely (I mean c'mon Rina's parents had NO idea that they didn't have their real daughter?) But hey, it sets up into a pretty good and entertaining story. Randoh's continuing search to find the real Yuna and his adjustment to living trying to disguise himself as a girl certainly helps to drive the story. Additionally all of the awkward humor that arises from Randoh'snew development as being the new "hot piece of tail" of the school and fighting off the advances of knucklehead guys and his trying to contain frequent nosebleeds while being around beautiful girls changing is absolutely fantastic. One negative was how iit seemed like every chapter Randoh would freak out and get into a fight with SOMEBODY. Not that I don't enjoy fights, it just seemed like they happened way too often. Overall I thought that the pacing and progress of the events in the story were well done although the ending left a lot more to be desired I felt but that is mostly due to the fact that the series was being dropped so the mangaka had to finish it quickly. Still, it leaves you with a warm and fuzzy, yet fairly satisfied feeling after reading. Art: 8 The art for this manga was fairly good, nothing fantastic. However I will give praise to the artist' ability to create a set of unique-looking characters and the action and fighting scenes were also very well done. Plus some of Randoh's outfits were pretty sexy, which was awkward because I'm a guy... Character: 9 Characters were the strongest part of this manga I feel. Randoh's development from arrogant karate hard-ass, to then realizing that everyone, with the exception of Rina, actually hated him when he was alive, to then developing into to a much kinder, friendlier, and sensitive character, even breaking into tears at the end of the series (read the manga if you want to find out why!). Rina, the main love interest, was a pretty good character although for the most part she seemed to be in the background. Although Rina's sisterly care for "Yuna" does provide a fair amount of humor as poor Randoh has to try to contain his romantic desires for her and keep from blowing his cover. Also Dr. Manabe, Randoh's plastic surgeon/doctor/advisor, was absolutely hilarious, probably one of my favorite parts of the whole series. Supporting cast kept their initial roles throughout the series for the most part, but they were so much fun that they contributed to the series without need for much development. Enjoyment: 9 Overall I did actually really enjoy this manga. It took a pretty unique twist on the genderbender/genderswapping genre with some pretty good results. Even though the premise and some of the plot developments were a little bit questionable for realism, that didn't stop me from enjoying this manga a lot. The humor was always spot on and hilarious and Randoh's development as a character was fantastic. The ending, although rushed was still really good and, although I wish it would have ending somewhat differently was still good enough for me. After all it isn't about the end it's about the journey! Overall: 9 Overall this is a pretty good manga which while bringing nothing outrageously new to the table, has one of the most original premises out there and executes its humor fantastically. A recommended read for fans of genderbending and also highly recommended for fans of comedy.
This is the best Gender bender manga I ever read with superb art and entertaining storyline.Though the story totally revolves around Randou kun[main protaganist],it reaches all the other Characters too.Its pretty funny and Interesting to read.A high school boy face is changed by a plastic surgeon into the girl he likes and hes into certain situation that he acts as sister of the girl he likes.Due to his Bright character and girl cute face,He gets guys and girls chase after him and so popular. The surgery perverted doctor is pretty funny.Art has been so cute in this manga and Kano yasuhiro brings out the emotions andfeelings and situations of the Respective characters perfectly.I dont find any thing wrong with the art. This manga story has certain turning points which makes it more interesting, totally Recommended to read it
