Much like its pretty-much-source Psycho-Pass S1 (the anime series), 'Kanshikan Tsunemori Akane' reveals a gruesome reality some 80ish years in the future. And much like I've recommended Psycho Pass to anime newcomers from my social circles with great success, the manga has reaped similar adoration by my friends and acquaintances. What I really liked here is that there's a surprising depth to Akane's internal thoughts/feelings. You could see the same in the anime series too, but the manga did a very good (or maybe even better?) job at depicting this process in written form. Look, if you liked Psycho Pass S1, you'll like this adaptation too. Tosome this might be a repetition of what you've already seen; to me it's interesting to see how things translate between a fully animated/more fluid form and a seemingly (but only seemingly) more static form jailed between the manga panels. The series is a suspense-filled, high-octane action show with psychological and philosophical aspects and its fair amount of gore. It was nice to see this being translated REALLY well into manga form too; this piece of art is as gripping and anxiety-inducing as the anime itself. I found the art to be janky on some occasions and it's not really spectacular in any way. However, it carries the ideological torch of Psycho Pass well. A solid 9/10 (realistically, a 8.5/10 though).
In futuristic Japan, the human soul is analyzed and digitized. A flawless structure called the Sibyl System assesses this data and creates a perfect life for each citizen while also evaluating their potential for crime—otherwise known as one's "Psycho-Pass." Even so, incidents still occur, requiring the existence of the Ministry of Welfare's Public Safety Bureau (MWPSB). Short on personnel, MWPSB employs latent criminals as Enforcers—morally corrupt individuals whose Psycho-Pass surpasses the allowed threshold—in service of the capable Inspectors. They make use of Dominators, special guns designed to read one's Psycho-Pass, and work together to apprehend wrongdoers. Being one of the few people the System considers adequate for MWPSB, Akane Tsunemori is assigned as Criminal Investigation Division's new Inspector of Division 01. Secured by her strong sense of justice, Tsunemori's Psycho-Pass is unwavering in the face of incurable fugitives on both the just and rotten sides of the system. But early into her career, Tsunemori encounters a person thought impossible: a criminal with the Psycho-Pass of a righteous man. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
