Ok, here I am, I pick it up thinking it can be interesting, and it is, VERY INTRESTING, but it's not good. The first thing that hit me was the art, it's bad, and it's good. Over all it fits the "story" and gets across what it wants to get across. The characters are there, extremely generic, but the "story" never digs to deep into it. The "story" as I call it, is shit... let me rephrase that... nonexistent. SURE, there are bits of what you could call a story. There is also... well... bits of a story... that doesn't know how to tell itself? it feels a bit to toofast paced, and it never goes into anything, it leaves more questions than answers, and the whole time I am looking for a story ESPECIAL in volume 2, I found myself yelling WHAT THE @#%$ IS GOING ON and WHO the #@$# is THAT. And then if I'm right and there are only 2 volumes, the thing just stops, there feels like there needs to be at least a third volume to end whatever "story" there is. Above I said that the art is good, but this style is a problem for me because so many people look alike I can't tell who is who, or seeing someone from a different angel will make you wonder who is that. Enjoyment, is a hard one, on one hand there is no story, on the other hand it doesn't need one... exactly... you understand if you read stuff like this every now and then. But overall, the no story, who the #$%^ is that moments that happen to often, and abrupt stop, I can't give this any more than a 3
In the near-future on planet Earth, a world gone mad where never-ending war is a fact of life, Kirio is the coolest kid at school. Up in the sky, a giant robot is fighting a fleet of gunships, but the brilliant and distant Kirio is far from fazed—until the battling 'bot makes an unexpected landing in Kirio's front yard and rings the bell. But the worst threat for Kirio could be what stands on the other side of the door: an alien invader robot with the face of an adorable girl! (Source: Del Rey)
One of my favorite mangas. First off what is probably the most impressive about this manga is the art style. It's visually striking; bold, fluid and emotive. The designs are simplistic yet beautiful and get the emotion across very strongly. It's not a traditional 'manga' style and very much influenced by Western media so to some it might be strange, but to me it's one of my favorite aspects of this work. The plot itself is very convoluted....there's a lot of thick blocks of text, especially exposition and other bits that can be harder to get through. Upon a first read one would probably missmost of whats going on in the background, which would be understandable. (Luckily for all of us this is a quick read). FLCL comes to mind when thinking about the plot...a lot of what's going on is very character-driven with a background of something much bigger going on that isn't so evident at first. However, the characters themselves have very strong motivations and interesting characteristics which makes up for the fact that the plot can be hard to follow at times. I can understand why some people might not like QKO-chan as its very much not in the traditional style of most mangas (both in storytelling and art) but for those that enjoy something more experimental this might be the read for them.
