Moderator Note: This review was originally written for Love Graduation, but has since been merged into Beauty!! So, this is a typical shoujo manga. I enjoyed reading this one-shot, but there aren't only good points about it. Positive: - The art is clean and kind of cute - the plot is quite captivating, but not something really originalNegative: - The character's personality is a little weird. First of all, the guy seems to have a double-personality. At first he seems to be just a handsome playboy, but suddenly he's caring and sweet (?). And the girl... well... has just a plain personality. - The ending is just too expected. It doesn't give us any surprise at all! But, well... you have to read it so you can find out. Well, I think that's all~ Hope it helped somehow :3
Every time the dumb, naive, and pretty girl Makoto sees beauty she'll throw up!! Unfortunately once she enters the school, the first pair she encounters is the super weird, yet beautiful guy, Kiyoshi, and the incredibly beautiful guy, Atsushi!! Plus she was forced to join the "Beauty Research Club," she was put in chains by Kiyoshi and he just wouldn't leave her alone. But...the one Makoto actually likes is Atsushi...!! Included one-shots: Volume 3: Usotsuki Ai (Liar's Love) Volume 4: Renai Kigen Volume 5: Renai Mesen Volume 6: Renai Ouji
Beauty; an apt name for such a strange shoujo tale. Beauty is not a manga tale to fantasize about, but rather one to have fun with and smile at some of the more innapropriate moment. To enjoy this manga I'd say you just have to take it for what it is, a girl throwing up on boys. Now, I won't say that I'm truly familiar with the manga as it's been just under two years since I read this manga (sometime in January of 2008), but I do remember it fondly as I was the one that first added Beauty to MyAnimeList and I was rather surprisedthat no-one had realised such a sweet manga earlier, I am glad to see that it has earnt such a following. Story [7/10] If you were to tell me to read a manga about beautiful boys and regurgiated undigested food, then I would probably ignore you and read something violent, but when I stumbled upon Beauty I was rather amused which later developed into something sweeter. The plot in itself was strange, a rather pretty girl who vomits whenever seeing something beautiful, though not something cut out to become a legendary tale or even an anime adaption. Though it was still fun to read and the story flowed nicely accross a manga format and yet never slowed down in a way that would bore you. In many cases, this alone is enough to make the manga worthwhile, though it continued to deliver in terms of plot. It keeps you interested and curious about her condition and the man she would eventually choose in a rather effortless fashion. Art [8/10] The Art, though nothing innovative, was very nice. The style was traditional of any shoujo; large eyed girls, angular pretty boys and of course never short on beautiful clothing. The art itself held a kind of wispy, vagueness to it, which gave the images a dreamlike quality, though still recognisable. I felt that this was a very nice effect which gave this very dreamlike shoujo manga what it needed. Characters [6/10] Though each character had his or her twist, the girls seemed to be rather average as the unsuspecting, baby faced girl with a rather timid personality and the humourous pretty boys that gave the manga its dose of humour. These are stereotypes that are common in a shoujo manga that i felt could have been a little more innovative with. Though, I would have to say, the characters had very nice responses to one another, their reactions to each of their personalities were well done and practically made the manga what it was. Enjoyment [8/10] I really did have fun as I read this manga, the story was fun and intriguing and the characters had their own charms and the jokes were very fun and light hearted. Though I wouldn't say that this is a great manga, it's still a fun one and to truly enjoy it you just have to take it for what it is.
In actuality i would rate this manga a 5.5 but decimals arent allowed The story isn't awful, i guess if you are a shojou manga fanatic and love any shoujo manga, this manga would be alright, maybe a 6 or even a 7. But as someone who has read hundreds of shoujo manga, this falls below average. It is very dull despite attempts to make it other wise. A girl who feels like throwing up every time she encounters beauty? Not amazingly unoriginal but still uncommon. However everything else is just as cliche as it could get. The characters are unreasonable and just as tacky. Makotoespecially. She is the typical naive protagonist who spends 25% of the time being some sort of clueless but kind angelic figure that everyone in the story likes, 25% of the time crying, and the other 50% stirring up unnecessary conflicts due to misunderstandings or illogical thoughts. The main dude is just as cliche, a dark haired "arrogant wild child" who is actually a sweetheart when softened by main girl. There is absolutely nothing new from the main characters to the side characters who plays a strictly extra role. The art is below average with the proportions being just cringey, not much improvement happens throughout the manga and towards the end, they still have these weird wide pentagon faces. So yeah to sum up, the manga is extremely dull and cliche, unless you want a very basic shoujo that doesnt even execute clicheness in an entertaining fashion, i would try looking for something else to read.
This manga is awesome. I loved it. I like the main characters an I liket the plot as well. The story is about one girl that when she sees beauty she will throw away and when she esters the school she was forced to join the research beauty club. Later she falls in live with Atsushi (a handsome and hot guy) and they start dating. This manga is very cute and i think that you should try it.
