I'll be honest. The thing that makes this a Masterpiece is the Art that is this manga made back in 1992. If you seperate all the exploding heads and body's cleaved in half, it's not bad, but those things are drawn exceptionally well and they are just funny. The out of this world strength of the characters is insane and the main plot behind the protagonists strength is pretty damn simple. There is no over complicated plot, it's gore and action and lot's of blood and guts but done in a funny manner. I recommend to shonun lovers. NOT SLICE OF LIFE. I REPEAT. NOTSLICE OF LIFE affiliated in any way. Shape. Or form. This is a manga you could finish in a day and finish the day feeling "that was terrible" OR "that was so good I'm gonna add it to my favourites" which is what I did.
At the turn of the previous century, the earth quaked. The earth's crust began to shift for the fourth time, centering around the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. The entire world's land mass was reduced to 3/5 of the planet, and the human population was reduced by a third. Put simply...the earth had gotten old. In 2039, there was only one country that continued to prosper, glaring around at the rest of the dying planet: Japan. Todoroki Jin returns to Tokyo, the city where he was born, in hopes of finding his friend Ryoma. Little does Jin know about how Tokyo's changed since his last visit... (Source: Illuminati-Manga)
I thought this is going to be another story inspired and copied from fist of the north star, it is. However I was surprised at the end of the manga with changes of the characters and the evolution of the characters through the story. The art and the fighting scenes were great as usual from this mangaka and it fits the atmosphere of the story. The manga would be prefect if there was more details about the whole event, zooming in to some characters and the hyper humans. Overall I enjoyed this manga but I wish it was longer to make the story more interesting and detailed
Art is really great, the Action is really great, and the MC is very likable. It's got good atmophere too, and it's gory in a really fun, over the top way that reminds me of something like Robocop if it were done with swords! If that appeals to you, I say that this series is for you! Some expanded thoughts: It's not as smart as it probably thinks that it is, but it's also not stupid like I'm told Riki-Oh is, and the series succeeds in pullingl off some decently clever twists, and really does a good job at making you like the main character, and wantingto see him accomplish his goals without making him someone that is always aiming to do the right thing. The action is really really good, largely aided by just how good the art is. Saruwatari Tetsuya was quite something with his art, and made me want to take a moment to appreciate a lot of the pages in this work. If you want a fun post apoc action manga, give this a shot!
