This was a manga I continuously skipped for a while til one holy day I decided to pick it up. So here's the review! Story (9): It's an instant classic the moment I decided to read up chapter 1, all the jokes always hit right on mark, whenever it wants to bring in sad, cute, or any type of emotion to the story element, it always delivers. So essentially it was perfect up til the end... the ending left you off with a cliffhanger and so many questions, if felt as if there was supposed to be another chapter right after but nope, it just endslol. Art (9): It's no where perfect and I gotta be honest, if this manga was terrible it would've gotten a 5 or 6 in this department, but since the manga was able to use this kind of art and was able to convey emotion while telling a good story is good enough for me. Characters (10): All of them are unique enough to remember their names, hell even the minorest of minor characters you can get instantly attached to and I commend this manga for that. Enjoyment (9): That ending left me unsatisfied and wanting for more, and to give a bit more details on what the ending was like without giving spoilers is like this. The fourth to last chapter had a good ending in line but was told as an alternative timeline, so here comes the final arc and the true final ending was a retcon.... and essentially left us on a cliff hanger as if more was going to happen. Other than that, all 270+ chapters were some of the greatest stuff I've ever read. Overall (9): I wish I can give this a 10 out of 10 but it's not, not with that cliffhanger. I would definitely pick this up and give it a read, I do not regret reading it and I don't mind fully re-reading it for the future.
Kusuo Saiki is not your typical high schooler—behind his glasses, pink hair, and antenna-like appendages exists a being of unfathomable psychic power. Telekinesis, teleportation, and astral projection might sound exciting to the average person, but from Saiki's viewpoint, they are nothing but an annoyance. Psychic powers are unnecessary—this is all that Saiki has believed since he was a kid. As a secret esper with the sole dream of living an ordinary life, Saiki tries to use his psychic abilities to stay out of the public's gaze. However, having to clean up after his odd classmates and their antics, all the while keeping his psychic powers a secret, makes it rather difficult to achieve the peaceful life he desires. [Written by MAL Rewrite] Included one-shots: Volume 1: Chounouryokusha Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan (pilot) Volume 2: Omaenchi, Obake Yashiki Volume 3: Gekidan! Improvisation Volumes 4, 6: Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan & Ansatsu Kyoushitsu: Korosense VS Saiki Kusuo - Iruma-shi Saishuu Kessen Volume 12: Terrace House Dust Volume 25: Seishounen Yuugai Kankyou Kiseihou
Overall: This was my first ever manga that wasn't shoujo or had any sort of romance in it, and surprisingly I enjoyed it very much. About the manga (general events, and characters): The character you see with this pinkish-red hair and odd things on his head is the main character, "Saiki Kusuo". If you aren't into animes/mangas that don't have a big goal the characters work towards (like saving the world, killing a villain, or just graduating from school), this is NOT your thing. If anything, it's very random, and sometimes even breaking the 4th wall, but very enjoyable nonetheless simply because it was vERY out ofthe blue. About 10 or so chapters in, you will get a hang of how things go in this manga, but you shouldn't think that it's just going to be the same thing again and again--maybe twice at max to bring closure to a previous problem/situation, but that's about it. The characters also grow and develop into a better version of themselves. So if you are kind of annoyed by a certain character, they eventually grow out of it or just lessen their intensity as they go. Conclusion: Normally, I usually don't like these types of animes/mangas with an exception for K-On!. So I was surprised that I binge read this. At the end of it, it made me regret that I didn't do stupid stuff with my friends when I had the chance to.
Just finished Saiki K., and omg, I’m actually gonna miss this so much. Peak comfort manga. It’s not trying to be deep or anything, but that’s the point - it’s just chaos and crazy situations. The jokes? Always on point. The characters? It's hard to dislike them. Saiki’s out here trying to live a chill life, and everyone around him is a walking circus. Relatable, honestly. The art style’s simple, but it works perfectly - those reaction faces are everything. If you’re into unhinged comedy like Gintama or just wanna laugh your ass off, this is it. Had me laughing so hard I cried more thanonce. Certified banger. 11/10 would re-read .
Ahhh Saiki K., some consider it an absolute hidden gem within the dark valley magazine that is WSJ. Had this manga been axed sometime around chapter 100 or so I would agree, but there is no denying that at a certain point the quality seriously degraded with many characters either fading away, getting flanderized or shoved to the side so we introduce a new wacky addition that will eventually lose their whole charm for the sake of jokes that are really not all that funny in the first place anymore. Let me start off with the good, Saiki himself as well as a majority of theintroductory cast. The main Trio of Saiki, Kaidou and Nendo are really strong hooks especially mixed with the fact that neither of them know or notice anything off about Saiki. But that's not all! We can't forget Teruhashi of course. Essentially god's chosen child who acts like she's some sort of angel when in reality she's a stuck up and egomaniac who's only reason for falling for Saiki being that he is the first one to not instantly cream his pants at the sight of her. These four as well as several others such as Saiki's parents and grandparents, Yuuta, Mera, Hairo, Toritsuka, Yumehara and Teruhashi's siscon brother serve as great tools for the comedy, most of them having strong personalities or setups that may annoy Saiki but entertain the reader quite well. But then it keeps going. And it keeps going. And what the actual fuck happened. We get introduced to new characters that feel incredibly one dimensional or get thrown away once the very few limited jokes they were there to provide have been used up. Pretty much the only ones that actually provide some sort of character depth are Aiura and Kusuke and even then after his like third appearance Kuusuke's plotline just became so loose and it felt like his initial set up was completely thrown away in favor of making him just another mild annoyance. Aiura exists as a sort of rival love interest to Teruhashi...sorta, again after most of her jokes have been used up she kind of just fades to the side and doesn't even get any serious romantic moments like Teruhashi does. Let's not forget the rather drastic changes to certain characters that turned them from funny to just straight up annoying to both the reader and Saiki. Mera and Yumehara, seriously, what the fuck happened here? Pretty soon these two become a detriment in almost every chapter due to them making the exact same jokes over and over with little variation. I wanna write more but this review is starting to feel too negative, overall I still like and reccomend it but after a while it seriously loses it's charms. Feel free to drop it once Aiura gets introduced or even before that.
