I'm always in love with Nojiko's art and waiting for something new. And finally, a new completed one is out. "Kurayami ni Strobe" To be honest when acmedan first posted this, i thought it would be just oneshot because they said so. But after i read it, i thought it wasn't finished yet and then, the 2nd chapter was out. Kurayami ni Strobe tells you about Arata and Shoutarou. Arata loves to take pictures of boys in his highschool and get the benefit by selling them to the girls. Since junior highschool his "lens" always landed on Shoutarou but he just stayed in the closet untilone day Shoutarou confessed his feelings to him. I think Nojiko really wants to do something different here by describing how gays' life in the closet would be. Arata is very cautious by his feelings and always figures out how to not show that he's into Shoutarou. It's 180° opposite with Shoutarou (and i must tell you, HE'S SUCH A CUTIE!). This innocent straight-talker guy isn't shy to show up his feelings and what he's gonna say ignorantly. And you completely can imagine how red Arata's face is through the pages. Shoutarou reminds me of Misato from Junketsu Drop (a yaoi manga by Watarumi Naho and Kisaragi Manami). They have the similarity in appearance and about 10% of Misato 's personality is in Shoutarou. Kurayami ni Strobe is light, fun, and enjoying. You can go through the pages with smile and laughter because of the ridiculousness Arata and Shoutarou make. But there are some clichés of boys love manga that make you say "Oh... this again". Some readers actually want to know more about the relationship between other characters in this story, Sawayama and Hase. And about the kiss, i think that Nojiko now understands how to express the kiss for boys love manga. Don't you think the kissing scene in Endou-kun No Kansatsu Nikki is a little bit inappropiate for a shounen-ai manga? About the art, ughh, you really don't need to put your doubt against Nojiko, right? her sketch-styled drawing is ALWAYS amazing! She really can express the loneliness, emptiness, and joy perfectly. Overall, this manga is 8/10 worth to read. It's not so special about the story -compared with the feelings you get after read Endou-kun or Yozora ni Sumikko de- but it's so worth to give a try.
This sweet coming-of-age BL story follows Arata as he admires his childhood friend, Shotaro, from behind his camera lens. As friendship blossoms into something more, Arata and his camera seek to capture the fleeting joys and beauty of youth. Arata, a member of the photography club, and Shotaro, a member of the basketball club, are childhood friends. The photos of Shotaro that Arata takes are very popular with girls. While Shotaro continues to turn down confessions almost every day, Arata continues to hide his own feelings for Shotaro. Then one day, Shotaro tells Arata that there's someone he likes... and their lifelong friendship changes forever. (Source: Tokyopop)
I fell in love with this Bl. The plot, the art and the characters are absolutely cute. The story seems to be a cliché because of the childhood friend theme but it's a cliché well done. I was impressed by how it was realistic not like some BL which the subject of homosexuality is not developped. I love the fact that Arata hides his feelings for Shoutaro because of the fear of what other people might think. He's not only protecting himself but also protecting Shoutaro. I think the art is the main factor for the cuteness of the story, especially the faces: you can tell justby looking at their faces what they are feeling. This is a really great manga. I had so much fun reading the sweetness of the story. Since this is a shounen-ai, there’s no explicit scenes shown which can disappoint some yaoi fans. But I think what’s more important here is that, the story is told with great care and the relationship feels true. Sincerely, just read it and you'll understand what's a masterpiece.
saw that there werent many reviews for this so thought i might help people out! the story is only 5 chps + 6 extras that are small 4-komas, side story of the other friends, and other developing relationship moments of sawa x arata. very easy quick read with each chp being 30-40 pages. the art is what drew me in first ;) the hand-drawn art style is really natural and light, everyone has a different character design -no same face syndrome. the photography film unraveling with plot points, the contrast of light and dark -very nice metaphor! story wise and character development -very wholesome! the authortakes time to actually realistically show each of their feelings esp with anxiety, fear of rejection, fear of societys homophobia, internal homophobia /being in the closet etc. I really appreciate how the author actually has them communicate this to each other and learn to grow from these fears together. honestly COMMUNICATION WAS KEY TO MAKING THIS GOOD plus the wholesomeness of the couple -their faith, respect, and love for each other was too pure T.T OVERALL give this a read -its totally worth it!
this was such a nice manga to read. nothing special, but it was very nice and enjoyable. all of the characters were absolutely loveable. from the main couple, to the other 2 side characters. the romance worked and the light hearted comedy balanced it well. i honestly can't believe on how well they made this work with such little amount of chapters. it was (i think)originally a one shot which was already nice on its own which says a lot on how its going to be with 7 chapters. i can't really comment on the mlm/gay struggles part and how well they portrayed it since imnot mlm myself but i have a friend who is, and he said that it was very much accurate. he felt like, i quote "it was actually me being the main character" definitely give this a shot. it only has 7 chapters so even if you dont like it you wouldn't waste a lot of time
