Overall, this was a nice story, The art is nice, the characters are lovable with a nice tsundere lead, the protagonist is a perverted idiot who wanted a harem but couldn't get one. The jealousy and twists and just a nice amount of comedy. It was nice that it wasn't a harem, cause they do tend to be overdone, but it was a situation where a harem would be nice ----Spoiler that won't ruin the entire story, just one part---- In fact, the only problem I had with this story was that the protagonist actually had the chance to get the harem of his dreams, but the maingirl wouldn't let him, and I wouldn't have minded if they were childhood friends or if she was his girlfriend from the beginning, but she wasn't; and to be honest with you that was the only thing that bothered me in this entire story (I'm not mad that it wasn't a harem story, but It would have been better if the author didn't add that one part, or made it a harem at some point just because of that one moment) I can honestly say that, that one scene pissed me off a lot and made me love this story just a bit less
Inukami: a sacred being with a dog-like appearance that forges a contract with a powerful human tamer to help them eliminate evil monsters and demons. Though Kawahira Keita is the descendent of a long line of Inukami-tamers, he seems to lack the necessary ability and has been forsaken by his family. One day, he meets a cute Inukami named Yoko, who, at first glance, looks graceful, obedient, and beautiful...but upon forging a contract with her, Keita discovers that Yoko is a wild and mischievous Inukami that no one has ever been able to control. tl;dr: A somewhat weird romance manga that while lacking in substance is still pretty amusing. This manga is a light novel adaptation that is strange in that itâs a generic harem series that isnât actually harem. The premise is that Inukami trainers exist who can form contracts with dog spirits known as Inukami and then take jobs dealing with various supernatural phenomenon. Inukami trainers can form contracts with multiple Inukami and Inukami seem to mainly be cute girls, so itâs a pretty standard harem set up. However, the protagonist Keita, only forms a single contract with a single girl named Yoko. Keita is a pervert andvery much wants to contract more girls. However, Yoko is super clingy and refuses to let him. At this point itâs just a standard romance story, but what makes it weird is that it feels like itâs very strongly emphasizing that itâs not a harem story. This comes into play with Yoko basically playing the part of jealous girlfriend a lot, but it also kind of plays into broader aspects of the story. Mainly in that the vast majority of reoccurring side characters are pretty much part of Keitaâs cousin, Kaoruâs, harem and it serves as a contrast to Keita and Yoko. But at the same time, itâs not like its criticizing harems as it portrays Kaoru and his relationships with his Inukami in a positive light. So really, it feels like the whole point of everything is for it to be funny that Keita canât get a harem. But at the same time, a lot of Kaoruâs Inukami seem to be really fond of Keita, so in the end I have no clue what itâs trying to do. Itâs just a weird dynamic all around. As for the Keita and Yoko themselves, theyâre a decent couple, I guess. They do get relationship development and grow closer over the course of the manga, but itâs really not fleshed out well at all. I feel like itâs skipping portions of the light novel dedicated to this, though I havenât read the LN so I donât know for sure. Yoko gets character development in that she starts the series just straight up mean but softens up a good amount and though it isnât handled amazingly well, itâs handled better than the relationship development. Thereâs an overarching plot thread regarding Yokoâs background, but as far as the manga gets itâs basically just touched on and doesnât go anywhere. Thus, the plot is pretty much entirely just small episodes of the cast dealing with various supernatural phenomenon. These episodes are generally pretty solid due to good comedy. It wasnât very good at getting any investment in the cast or plot though. The ending is pretty much what youâd expect from a manga forcing an ending to an adaptation of a story thatâs still going. Insignificant and lacking in substance story wise, but still trying to a hit a good emotional beat to end on, which managed to land decently well I guess. The art is cute focused and overall okay. Both in terms of quality and style itâs not particularly great but not particularly bad either. It gets the job done without issue but this definitely isnât a manga that youâd read for the art.
Inukami was a lighthearted read, but I didn't feel special or different from other reads that have somewhat similar premises. Story - The stories' plot is simple and easy to pick up. The story takes a more comedic route. I felt that the series was too short and knew it was too short that the story couldn't reach its full potential. The comedy in this series made me chuckle or smile, but not truly laugh. Art - The art in this series is notably done in a cutesy style. That is good or bad depending on a person's taste, but I can also say that it isnot breathtaking. Characters - The main two characters are enojoyable and the supporting characters fall in between slightly bearable to slightly enjoyable as they are introduced with a set personality and little to no development. Overall - For what this series was trying to be, I felt very average. If you enjoy light (really light) comedy with cute characters. This is probably for you.
