Dear Reader, Let me tell you this was not an easy selection to complete. In both the effort it took to track down the last volumes and the grind of reading through to the end, this was a tough one to do. On with the review... The melodrama that is the combination of sex and high school life has been done to death. Anime, Manga, Books, TV, and Movies, the entire spectrum of entertainment platforms have covered this genre. But, never has one taken it to such a pretentious, unintelligent, and ridiculous level as featured in "Uwa-Koi". I'm gonna break this down into the MAL categories featuredabove; story, art, character, and enjoyment. 1) Story- The story is a load of garbage. It exists only to give a confused, horny, teenage boy a reason to have as many sexual encounters as possible. It then finds excuses to have more characters enter the story just for the purpose of more intrigue and sex. Then, when things do reach a *giggity* climax, the writer(s) take a massive cop-out and end this farce in the most aggravating and lazy way possible. This alone makes you feel you've wasted your time. 2) Art- The art isn't too bad. The character designs are nothing special and each have enough distinguishing features to tell them apart. There are many scenes that just feature gratuitous sex and acres of flesh. There is very little beauty in these sticky fumblings and while they do have some creative censorship, it's nothing more than NC-17 pornography on display 50% of the time. 3) Character- Ha-ha-ha! "Characters"? That's a laugh! Okay, there's our main characters, a teenage boy who can't seem to control his sexual urges all while complaining about how "wrong" it is what he's doing. The girl he lives with who has loved him since childhood and is a little crazy. And the dark, seductive, mysterious, girl who our MC has a crush on and is a little crazy. Supporting cast is 99% female. But, all the girls in this Manga have serious problems and are only driven by 1 or 2 things; To bang our MC and/or complicate the plot through shady methods. There is not a single likeable character in this entire piece. 4) Enjoyment- This sort of stuff is targeted specifically for those who like angst-ridden erotica. I can identify with the absolute whirlwind of confusion sex causes the teenage mind. The overpowering urges caused by raging hormones, who wouldn't be thrown through a loop? The Manga uses a good analogy, "Playing with fire". It's true. Dangerous and confusing times. But, "Uwa-Koi" disregards the important questions it raises by always ending with the boy and girl having sex. All the banging featured inspired me to bang my head against the wall. I got a few chuckles here and there, but only frustration at the stupidity on display. Overall- This Manga can provide a cheap thrill for those interested in one, but I don't recommend it. Partly due to the monotonous nature of the plot and the ending which had no thought put into it. I'm left with nothing but a chip on my shoulder and a bad mood after putting so much into getting through this sex-romp soap opera. Please, don't waste your time with this. They messed up so bad and then added insult to injury with the ending. God forbid if they ever make this into an Anime... Overall 2/10. Dreadful. Stay away!
Yukiteru Tamaki and his childhood friend Yuno Kirishima are in a relationship, and outwardly, things seem perfect. But Yukiteru has a secret: he has actually been sleeping with their friend, Rena Saotome, ever since she confessed to him. Though Yukiteru plans to tell Yuno, he soon finds himself juggling both girls, with Yuno being none the wiser. But things get more complicated when Kaori Yumeno sees Yukiteru and Saotome having sex on the rooftop. She agrees to keep quietβfor a price. The price is, of course, Yukiteru's body. With all of these girls in his life, Yukiteru has no shortage of intimate partners. But what will happen when Yuno finds out? [Written by MAL Rewrite]
I do not know why people criticizes much this series... Well in a sense i can understand since the Main Character is full of bullshit and has a superiority complex that all women would fall for him. I dropped the series because how much anger this main character gave me(also back then the series wasn't finished translation too)... and for worst most of the girls do actually spread their legs to him so easily as if he was some kind of god! That is the only bullshit i find on the series which made me drop it. HOWEVER!!!! There is another side of the coin... You have too lookinto the deep meaning of this story... and years after i first read this manga and dropped it, and after i encountered it again, i realize a few things based on comments and actions of real life men around the world and the bullshit they write on comments and forums regarding sex (and hentai). This story shows that going banging girls around is not a game, that sex is not a game, that cheating is not "fun and games". It shows that THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES for irresponsibility. Many people i've seen around (Which I take the chance to give them a slap of reality when i encounter them), complaining and writing comments about harem anime/manga when the Mc shows hesitant to bang a girl, the people call this Mc a wimp, or sissy... when most of those Mc are just being RESPONSABLE. People actually want the Mc to just jump all the harem girls' bones, consequences be damned. There are also actual people in realize who just go bang girls around without thinking about consequences or responsibilities and then run away like cowards when karma comes to them with a vengeance. This story shows that... shows the result of a Man who bang any girls he encounter without thinking of the consequences that those actions could bring. It shows how irresponsible sex WILL end up. Shows how Irresponsible people who cares about nothing will end up. This is not a game people. A TRUE MAN takes decision based on analysis of the situation thinking responsibly and having in mind the consequences that could bring any and all actions he take on a negative level. I guess this is the reason why most people, specially the men, who read this series don't like it. Because its a slap of reality. Yes, reality is not a fairy tale and if you act like this main character and act irresponsible, THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES. Most of them in real life has already payed for theirs... but they just curse live or God, blaming anyone but themselves for their own actions. So next time you want to jump an innocent girl's bones... mind break them, or abuse her, or rape, or just simply have casual sex for just a night of loveless passion... THINK OF UWA-KOI... And measure your thoughts and possibilities before taking action. BE A TRUE MAN, A RESPONSIBLE MAN. -- Also, this also goes to women who lately also had been rising on these irresponsible acts and accepting sex plays without thinking on the consequences... and the story also reflects on them. But you know what is sad? That these people will never learn... and most of them will continue on doing the same mistakes. People goes around saying: "yeah lets have sex, its all fun and it makes you feel good! nothing bad will happen!" or "Lets all be sex friends and have orgies or gang bangs, its all fun!" or "Lets go do some rape or sexual harassment, or mind breaking for the thrills!" Then shit hits the fan and this happens... then you see them desperate and running like cowards when karma comes to reclaim the debts. This includes both men and women. Even worst, the characters in this story were all children... which makes it worst... and in real life children also are being influence to participate in these "games" on their own without thinking on the consequences. This story is a slap of reality to those who believe sex is just a game, a good thing to pass time... then something like this happens. What saddens me is how people who engage in these acts make fun of those who actually are responsible and reserve themselves to participate in such things. Calls them lame and other things... because "nothing will happen"... boy how are they wrong... things does happen... bad things... real life is cruel. And those who refuse to engage in these acts are saving themselves from grief. -- You know... at first when I started to read this story. I thought that with all the crap the Mc went through in the beginning, he was going to try to make himself a better person, to strive to be better I thought that it was going to be just another romance harem series with a Nice passive guy who is indecisive between the girls in his harem like most are and then in the end he had to chose or story would be inconclusive, boy was I wrong.... but no... he went the other way and became an irresponsible sociopath prick that acted without thinking on the consequences and then ruined many people's lives because of it... and worst is that He didn't care. It was not until getting raped himself when he started to "Turn a new leaf" but by the it was too late. His dark karma was way to big and heavy... and he didn't even get to start doing the right thing... as he was killed out of revenge by another dude who's mind got broken by these irresponsible actions and witnessed something that broke him. The series ended as it did because the author tried to teach us something... teach us that reality is a bitch and if you are not responsible you have to pay dearly soon after for your actions. In the end, everyone in the SF club paid for their sins in X or Y ways... some of them came out not so harmed than others but they still had to taste karma. Sad thing is that that these people will never learn... and most of them will continue on doing the same mistakes over and over again without remorse or not caring about the consequences those actions will bring to themselves and the ones around them. Honestly Yuki came out of it pretty easily... being run over by a trains is merciful compared to worst things that could happen.
I had barely stayed myself to read this manga. If there were the equivalents of what shonen and seinen are in the general sense for the hentai genre, this would befall in the absolute pre-shounen hentai category. This is ridiculous to me. Everything can be made sense of, but in order to make sense of this story so as to properly become engulfed by it.. Well perhaps it's actuality not possible to achieve that. The story was very good to me in the very beginning of it, but holy cow did that go south fast. At this point, 32 chapters in, this is.. An author's sexual rantingwith an attempt at a plot to hold it all as its skeleton ..? It's not working for me. The thing I care about the most in any story, the characters; They are nonsensical to me, utterly so. The MC is an empty shell, and while at it, it's the first time ever that I feel like the MC isn't the MC. This is basically a hentai, but without the full visual aspect. I am just sad for Yuno, the initial girl. She is the reason I liked the story in its very beginning, and right now I'm only interested in what will happen with her. Well okay, the Sakura Kyouko of this story I also somewhat like as a character. So that's two things which aren't bad in this story for me. That's something. Let's see where to the end of this road will lead me.. ... And with its end, I've decided to bump the story's rating from one to 2, because the final chapter is 5/10 by itself. This is the worst manga I've read, this and Sankarea. Don't be fooled; Naturally, that is just my opinion. If you've enjoyed this more than I have, then you've won over me, while I have failed regardless of that.
This is a very interesting take on the so-called "harem genre" β where normally the protagonist has a large list of suitors that seemingly don't mind sharing, or can all remain friends despite the competition, this a rather gritty take on a more complex reality: the protagonist ever more gets sucked into repeated infidelity and sexual addiction until it consumes him and starts to endanger his reputation and life. The members of the harem also feel more fleshed out than usual, and have more of a backstory, though it's not exceptionally detailed, they are often given a history and have interesting personality and sex outside ofthe protagonist as well. True to the harem genre: the protagonist feels relatively bland and lacks agency, though it's far from as extreme as is usual in the harem genre. The strength of this story apart from the dark, nihilistic characters is that it definitely feels like a clear progression: there is no ship tease that never concludes and there are no filler chapters; every chapter feels like it progresses the plot and that it ends on different dynamics between the characters than whereon it started. It feels like a very coherent, albeit surreal story that has a beginning, a progression, and an end. The characters are generally unlikeable, but interesting. The protagonist is somewhat meek and first portrayed as being strung alone and unwilling to hurt his childhood friend but later revealed to be far more duplicit: most of the other characters are sexually exploitative of others and generally arseholes, but often in their own way with their own histories. It features a lot of smut; it's one of those borderline pornographic comics where everything but genitals is generally shown as is common to this author.
This story is mature. There not too many characters who stand out. It is weird but compelling like reading a thriller. Once you get into it, you might keep reading just to see how it all turns out. I found myself asking WHY a lot. You'll see why if you read it. The art is not amazing. The only redeeming material here is it gets your heart racing. Very good drama. In fact, this would be a great material for a play. If you don't mind cursing, sex, and violence read it. If strong language and GRAPHIC images bother you don't read it. NOT FORKIDS. Overall, I enjoyed i but was also disturbed by it.
