This manga was created from multiple artists and authors. Out of all of the five chapters I have read I have only found 3 to be extremely pleasant and satisfying. I won't tell which, but they are psychological and beautifully created. IF you love to read short pieces of manga that reflect on emotions or on self-satisfaction. Other than the 3, the other pieces are average or mediocre and a waste of time to read. I would've given this a 10 if the other two stories weren't there, but we can't. This manga has intelligence, humour, and beauty!
1. Hotel: Since A.D. 2079 2. Present 3. Subete wa Maguro no Tame datta (It Was All for the Tuna) 4. Stephanos 5. Diadem
Well that was interesting, first of all this is a kinda collective of different stories but still have something that ties to the original story, so some stories are good to me, some are bad, the way I'll rate this is basically just by majority (if majority of the stories are good to me or bad), with that out of the way, let's review it. The first story was a bomb, it was really dope as hell, I really like the subject and the message it wants to deliver, so far a good chapter but then chapter 2 starts, it's not bad but it's also notgood so average to me, it's a romance kind of theme which I'm not ready for since I know this is a sci-fi because I find romance manga to be overly dramatic and cringe, then 3rd story, I like this, probably around good tier for me, it was hilarious, a bit of an upgrade from chapter 2. Chapter 4, ohhh boy they touch a topics which I hate, so instant 1 for this story, after chapter 4 I noticed a pattern when it comes to the love partner of a male protagonist, it's always a younger girl, not just 4-5 years but teacher student age gap, pedophilia at it's finest my men, maybe the author is secretly a pedophile, so chapter 4 not only that it touched multiple topics I hate the most but also pedophilia was present since chapter 1, I'm getting kinda conflicted about this, those 2 stories (chapter 1 & 3) are really the ones keeping this afloat, chapter 5 was weird but I got the message and thank goodness the author didn't make it another pedophilia story. So let's sum it up: chapter 1 = 8, chapter 2 = 5, chapter 3 = 6, chapter 4 = 1, chapter 5 = 5, overall = 6 and that's just for the story, now for the final overall tally: Story = 6 Characters = 5 Art = 5 Overall = 5 really a shame, that chapter 1 was really dope, if this was a one-shot story it would have 8 on my scale.
a fantastic compilation of short stories that serves as a great introduction to the art of Boichi. Despite the seemingly unconnected stories can be found that thematic link between all of them, and that ecological and naturalist argument of the author who warns of the danger that involves the human being for the planet and for himself, while leaving that feeling that we can still be able to change the situation. An apparently superficial tome about dystopian science fiction, which contains a sad and melancholic vision of life and existence and the need to put in place values that are increasingly alien to humanity. Allthis with the powerful drawing of Boichi and an eclectic choice of approaches that make Hotel a unique tome.
Basically it's a manga that deserves a huge 10! An engaging and very present story. Even though in some ways it is "impossible" it is very touching, because it portrays the reality that we are living and that we will live if we continue like this. Just wonderful! In addition to an exceptional and intelligent plot, the arts of Boichi are fantastic, worth reading, not only for the story, but also for the beautiful drawings! Each stroke was done in a very beautiful way. And so, I base myself more on the first one-shot of the "series", since it is the most striking, but the other 4 are alsovery well made and beautiful, just wonderful, the manga is just wonderful. I recommend you read and cry while reading rsrsrsrs
Hotel is a weird series to write a review one, because it is actually a collection of short stories, each with their own degree of quality. I've read my fair share of Boichi works, and for the most part I've come to the conclusion that while he is very good at drawing, he is not quite as good at writing stories to go with the art. However, the first three chapters of this manga are, surprisingly, pretty good! This might be some of the best writing I've seen from Boichi. Chapter 1 is a pretty cool story about this little AI that has the job of keepingall of life's DNA intact. It's postapocalyptic, and pretty well written. I'd give it a 6/10. Chapter 2 is about a man and his soon to be dead wife. It's just a one shot, but it manages to pack a pretty cool story in the short amount of time. I'd give this a 7/10. Chapter 3 is my favorite in this entire anthology. It's the story of a man who just so happened to eat the last tuna in the world, and his life's work trying to bring it back. It's funny, yet still deeply touching in a way. I'd give it a 8/10. The last two chapters are, quite frankly, a mess. I don't really know what was going on there, or what Boichi was trying to do. I'd give them both a 2/10. Adding this all up, you get an average score of 5/10, which I think is pretty much what this series is. It's a cool, short read that I would recommend if you want to just pass some time.
