This is kind of trashy, but the worldbuilding is so interesting that it's still an entertaining read. Story: I love this kind of hokey premise. The 'lie meter' as a catalyst for the main couple meeting is executed fairly well (if a bit rushed), and the further worldbuilding and exploration in the second volume is also interesting. Art: It's not a very pretty style, a little dated, but endearing in it's own right. Characters: The two main characters are...fine. They're alright, a bit annoying but likable enough. The third most important character starts out as an interesting secret-antagonist, but becomes such a scumbag that it's hard tostomach any scene he's in. The way the story tries it's damndest to redeem him later doesn't help. Enjoyment: While I'd say this manga is average to mid (at best), it's so memorable that I end up remembering & looking it up again multiple times. In that way Count 0 stands out, and I have to give credit where credit is due.
What if there was a boy who could see the number of lies you've told in your lifetime tallied up on a counter next to your head? (Source: The Moon in a Box)
Read this back when it's first published...like...15 years ago?! Time sure passes by. At present, this story is kinda outdated, but back then I did feel like it's a refreshing take of the usual "being able to read lies" subgenre that's strangely popular in BL. The narrative takes more care to look at the nuances and implications of having such ability, particularly the unpleasantness. Making the MC start off as basically a misanthrope is a good move, I think. ML is also a pretty decent character for what he is advertised to be; his extreme honesty doesn't feel too much of a stretch. Supporting casts are a bit...stereotypical.Particularly the creep. And the sequel attempts to make the plot deeper, but I'm not sure it entirely succeeds. Less so than the original, at least. Time makes some of these plot elements less amazing than it was before, especially with the abundance of Guideverse / Hunterverse stories that takes the concept of 'modern life + powers' much better than this story ever could. However, the core relationship of this story still goes well. That's enough, I think.
