This story is less than 30 pages long but will still manage to move you. With it being such a short manga, I only need to write a short review. The story is original. It's about a vampire meeting an innocent young boy. Without wanting to spoil anything, if you keep reading you'll see what makes it original. The art is good. Nothing amazing yet nothing bad. This story only has two main characters. There is some depiction of other characters, but little to no background story is given about them. Still, while only appearing in one panel they manage to pique your interest. I don't know ifenjoyment is the right word. It's not a mushy manga. If you however enjoy good stories, then the enjoyment level is high. It leaves a very weird taste in your mouth without it being pushed down your throat: it has you both feel and think afterwards. With less than 30 pages this would only take about 5-10 minutes to read, so I'm sure you won't be disappointed after reading this manga. If you do: enjoy!
An ageless immortal monster, who feeds on blood, lives in a house surrounded by a fog-shrouded forest. In general, he doesn't want any trouble with anyone and wants nothing more than to die. One day, a mute little boy ends up on his doorstep. Uncertain as to what he should do with the child, he takes him in, and the boy becomes his constant companion. Will the simple, innocent love of a silent child be enough to restore life to the vampire's bleak existence? (Source: MU)
'Monster and Child' is a great example of a short, but sweet story. Though it's only a one shot (30 or so pages) it brought me to tears. The story really emphasized the thought of loneliness, loss and love. The people around me are always saying how they want to love forever, to see their children grow up and to see their grandchildren and such, but all of that is futile. Things like that are emphasized in movies a lot as well and a lot of people seem to agree with it. This one shot shows you the pain. I'm having a hard time writing this reviewactually and I always have something to say about everything, but this one is difficult. Words can't really describe how strong and powerful those 30 chapters of 'Monster and Child' are. All you can do is trust my word my it and read it. If you're not in tears by the end of this one shot, you are made of something stronger than titanium.
