A series of decent short stories with a terrible first story. Story: This compilation starts on the wrong foot with a vague, weirdly themed initial story and a protagonist who felt like an alien. It's the shoes one. Skip it for sure, then read the rest of the shorts. Even then, the stories are a little hit or miss, but they average more towards "hit". It's nice that each short is somewhat distinct in it's premise and they're mostly full of memorable characters. Usually I do a Chemistry section, but not all of these are love stories. Anyways. Art: Okay character designs often exist in a void withminimal background and par for the course paneling. I feel like the lack of interesting elements beyond alright character designs is mostly due to this being a compilation of shorts. I'd say check something else out if you have a stack of stuff to read, but the premises here are mostly neat and you'll likely have a good enough time.
HER is a series of character portraits, loosely strung together by everyday circumstances. The story begins with a woman who wants to be loveable - and loved - and who has a fixation on shoes. Her hairdresser's fear of the future is the subject of the second chapter. A schoolgirl whose hair she cuts sees her older female neighbor kissing her female lover goodbye. In the past, the neighbor had a difficult relationship with her mother. The neighbor's lover was rejected by her first love. The couple sitting next to them at the cafe have their own issues.
