Well, since there wasn't a review already written I decided to write one myself. I will keep this short. If you're expecting a big continuation, a new plot, or really any big story then I'm sorry to say you will probably be disappointed: It's not very long. If anything, this is one of those "x amount of years later" segments that happens at the end of various different forms of media. Albeit this, it does help to show that everything that kurosawa worked for eventually resulted in a success. Without giving away anything from the original, (if you haven't already read it, stop everything:eating, sleeping, homework etc.and read it now) the story basically shows how some of the relationships ended up, and allows a person (specifically me) to feel relieved to know that everything ended up "working out." This short story starts when Kurosawa returns a year later with his friends to the place that they went on their school trip, and ends a little while after they leave. If you've read the manga, then I would recommend reading this. But truthfully, it doesn't add anything new. Rather it just presents some kind of closure for the readers. Honestly, I would have been fine with only the ending of the manga, but it's nice to read if you're a fan.
Two years after his memorable school trip, Kakeru Kurosawa decides to visit Osaka once again with his former companions. Among this crew are the often-bullied Pizza-tan, the cheerful otaku Keiji Nagaoka, the energetic bookworm Magister Takigawa, and the timid Aya Kitahara—the main source of Kurosawa's troubles during their time in school. The trip is off to a rocky start as Kurosawa is berated by his girlfriend for not inviting her along with the group. Coupled with drama between Keiji and Takigawa and a tense ferris wheel ride shared by Kitahara and Pizza-tan, the gathering quickly becomes more and more uneasy. Though these longtime friends reunited to rekindle their old bonds, the strains in their relationship threaten to end their meeting in total disaster. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Note: Do not read this if you have not finished Onani Master Kurosawa as it contains some spoilers for it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "After the Juvenile" is a short epilogue to the OMK doujin that takes place about half a year after the class reunion (now in their 2nd year of high school). It shows Kurosawa and the other 3 members of his 8th grade field trip group (plus Takigawa) going back to Osaka to once again enjoy one of the happiest times of their lives just like Kurosawa had seen depicted in Takigawa's painting about her future. It also deals with Kurosawa's and Sugawa's awkward relationship that hasjust entered its fifth month without any development whatsoever. In my opinion, the first chapter is a little awkward due to some of the new drama, but the second chapter fixes that problem and ends very well. The writing style is very different from the original due to this being a novel without manga illustrations to back up the text, which I found to be weaker than the original. The story barely adds anything to the already great ending of the original story, but it's nice if you are huge fan of the original (like me). If you did not like the original or hate the idea of Kurosawa ending up in a relationship with the tsundere Sugawa, then I recommend not reading this. Still, it's just two short chapters that takes about an hour total to read, so there's not much to lose even if you dislike it.
I didn't even realize that there was something like this. I'd be honest, it made me want more of Sugawa and Kurosawa because the scenes that they're in where probably the best of the story. Part 1 is kind of ok although it was nice to see the group back together but Part 2 knocked it off the park. I'll admit I love Kurosawa and Sugawa being together because they compliment each other and they're both fun to see argue and make up. I understand why people don't like them but you have to see that at least they have background and didn't just magically becomean item. In the end I would like to see this become a manga and I hope there could be an anime adaptation to the original series. This is still the best manga series I've ever read! Must read and knock out the overrated ones.
*Disclaimer* Just personal scratch. Advised, possible spoilers. Opinion & Informal Illustrations: N/A No illustrations from what I could find. Clarity and Flow: 6/10 This is the first time I'm reviewing a novel so I can't talk about animation or panel progression. Instead I decided to have an area on clarity and flow. Of course, the translation and translator play a part in this but I'm going to look more at how the dialogue is presented and how well the story paces itself. Overall though I thought it was fine. The clarity was fine and things weren't confusing. The flow was fine as well. Everything progressed logically and at a reasonablepace. Things that were meant to be focused on were focused on so that's a plus to me. Characters: 6/10 The choice of characters as well as the choice in the timeline were nice. I appreciate the dynamics of the MC and his girlfriend and how the other cast members played a role in the conclusion of the story; the MC was able to learn something pretty simple, that the feelings of his girlfriend weren't anything complex or deep. The attention to the character appearance details was nice to see in the narrative. Plot: 6/10 Pretty much the true ending to the entire story as a way to finally let them live on outside of the pages. Development: 8/10 I liked this. I though that the development in this novel really added a lot more to the characters and their dynamics with one another. It really fleshed out much more of their personalities and gave reason to some of their worries and problems. The sort of awkward atmosphere that was able to be built was nice and reminds me of the type of airs that you see in things like Watamote or SNAFU. Conclusion: 8/10 A fitting and well done conclusion to their story. I'm impressed by both the depth and simplicity of the conclusion. While at the surface it was a simple slice of their lives, there was a lot of meaning behind their interactions that day. The MC was able to learn more about himself, his feelings, and the feelings of others. I'm glad that the conclusion was another, like the main, open-ended conclusion to a positive future outside of the pages. Overall: 7/10 This was a good addition to their world, the characters, and as a conclusion. A must read for those who liked the main.
Was just alright. So short that It's worth reading, so short that it hardly does anything. Made me happy to read about these characters again. If you read OMK, read this because literally why not. It was a very quick read. It's literally just two chapters and the word count is 9,000 or something (?). We get to see some old characters--the field trip crew--and other than that it's insubstantial. Still worth it though. Especially to squeeze out just a BIT more Sugawa and Kurosawa content out of the OG writer. Realizing there was a NOVEL made based on OMK, or some adaptation or whatever, made mesad since that is NOT getting translated to English man...I wish this series wasn't so enigmatic to the west.
