This is the kind of manga which makes you a little queasy but at the same time, makes you go WTF. With generous doses of fecal matter (No, I'm not shitting you here), gore and twisted humour, it's morbidly fascinating enough to make one read on despite the gross content. I did not enjoy it but this manga made me read on, if only for the sake of finding out what other sick twisted parody the mangaka can throw at us readers next. Kudos to their..er..creativity, but it's definately not for the weak-hearted/narrow-minded.
Shintaro Kago's work is and will eternally be polarized. There will be those who consider every manga he has ever published to be "disgusting", "awful", and a "waste of time, paper, and ink". And then there will be those, like myself, who regard him to be the intense, maniacal, and enjoyably demented pinnacle of creativity and impurity in manga. He frequently complements his exquisitely repulsive manga with heaps of entertaining jet black humor and intriguing satire. Anybody who savors and likes these jagged qualities will definitely have a ball with his material. "Yume no Omocha Koujo" is not his most refined work, oreven his most entertaining or thought-provoking, but it still proves to be a solid and fascinating one. The stories include a wide foray of atrocious topics: gritty Japanese folklore, body modification and destruction, rape, deviant hospital staff and battered patients, experimentation on pregnancy and birth, turtles, natural disasters, space warfare, disturbing future predicaments involving sports, etc., are all touched on in at least one of the chapters. The standout chapters typically are done in an interesting satirical approach. All of the chapters have good doses of creative black comedy in them and are not bashful about it in their frank execution. The art is slightly crude and not as well-polished as his more recent work. The character designs are at times special and detailed, but not usually so. However, what is certainly memorable are the delineations of the especially sickening and weird portions of this manga. These specific delineations depict acts that are outstandingly bizarre and grotesque. Kago's sense of humor is always apparent, and many laughs ensue from the warped and highly strident situations drawn in "Yume no Omocha Koujo. Human anatomical features are elaborate and are given nice focus. The ornate nature of many of the body gags only make them all the more enjoyable. Satirical elements are not too concentrated on and used in "Yume no Omocha Koujo", which does make this overall volume a slight disappointment. Kago works at his best when he finely mixes his black humor jokes with clusters of stirring satirical themes and ideas. However, although the overall lack of satire is a letdown, the gags are on point for the most part. They are generally morbid and odd, and are successfully funny. Unfortunately, "Yume no Omocha Koujo" is somewhat inconsistent. There are underwhelming chapters that are ultimately only barely amusing. Thankfully, the setbacks are not wildly major. There is a good amount of chapters that are genuinely hilarious and gloriously gross. It also is rejuvenating to read an effort that works well with the scatological element, at least in terms of making it thoroughly interesting and comical. Readers should take the disclaimers spread throughout the internet into consideration. It is very inaccessible and will absolutely turn-off casual readers, but will captivate those who appreciate and appease this sharp and rampant style. "Yume no Omocha Koujo" is mostly a darkly humorous and rewarding aggregation of thirteen nasty, nefarious short stories. Seven Likable, Dirty, and Scat-Filled Diapers out of Ten.
A 1-volume long manga containing various ridiculous and twisted one-shots. 1. Nukekubi Aika (Head Prolapse Elegy) 2. Shiroi Ito (White Thread) 3. Urashima-san (Mr. Urashima) 4. Yume no Omocha Koujou 5. Suijin-sama Oshutsujin (Drafting a Water Goddess) 6. Heisa Byoutou (Closed Hospital) 7. Naze Nani Mirai no Haisetsu (The How and What of Excretion in the Future) 7. Naze Nani Mirai no Sports (The How and What of Future Sports) 8. Naze Nani Uchuu Sensou no Maki (The How and What of a Space War) 9. Naze Nani Jishin to Kazan (The How and What of Earthquakes and Volcanoes) 10. Gyakuten Kidan (Tale of Reversed Oddity) 11. sweet Oshare Techou (Sweet Fashion Notes) 12. Shiroi Ha tte Ii na (White Teeth are Nice) Note: This is a manga for mature readers only. While there's a lot of comedy, it also does contain profanity, nudity and graphic sexual situations.
Remember watching/reading Elfen Lied or Gantz and being shocked by the nudity and gore. Both of these animes pushed the boundaries of mature content to the extreme, or so I thought... Yume no Omocha Koujo, the title that just rolls off your tongue contains some of the most sick, necrophiliac, psychopathic material with tons of fucked up guro images and defecation as well as mutilated sex. I have a pretty high tolerance to this kind of shit, but Yume no Omocha Koujo pushed it. I can't even believe I just read this manga. Most of the stories are pretty retarded and are quickly put together for thesole purpose of exploitation. One of the stories, Drafting a Water Goddess disturbed to the point where I wanted to actually brutally slaughter the fucking disturbed, necrophiliac, deluded villagers who rape, torture, and slaughter their own women in a disgusting game. The beginning of the series contains stories that are somewhat tolerable, but still disgusting. One of the stories involves white string that comes out of people's piercing, and activates different bodily funtions. Towards the end of the series, though, the content becomes more and more involved with scat. If you don't know what scat is, it's shit. It just makes me wonder what kind of sick fuck wrote this manga. Unfortunately the art is pretty well detailed and does its job at completely shocking the reader, to the point where some people might even throw up. The characters...well...they were...um extremely memorable and vibrant. Naw, I'm just fucking with you!!! They were all completely one dimensional. This was a pretty shocking read. If you have the balls to read this, then go ahead. For what it is, this manga is pretty inventive and original. Don't go into this manga expecting something deep.
There's odd, weird, twisted, fucked up, genuinely insane, and then there's Yume no Omocha Kaojou. This set of 12 one-shots is fucked up to 10th degree by the virtue of the subjects they cover, but it's strangely... addictive. Each time I finished a chapter, I'd go "holy crap I can't believe I read that......... well onto the next one, then", and the cycle continued until the very end. YNOK is demented, fucked up, absolutely bizarre in its delivery, but I strangely enjoyed it. I wouldn't qualify it as a hentai, as this is REALLY OUT THERE in terms of getting it up. Perhaps, if youabsolutely cannot get a stiff from normal stuff anymore, this might be for you, but otherwise don't bother going into this thinking you'll have a jolly fap ride. YNOK is mostly fucked up for the sake of being fucked up. It's a delivery from one sick mind's imagination to those of us that enjoy this type of a thing. It has no story, it has no characters, it has nothing that would qualify it as a competent form of entertainment outside of a single thing: shock value. That's all it has. Now, I wouldn't say I was shocked per se, as I've seen and read plenty fucked up shit in my life, but I was entertained by the sheer 'out there' presentations of these one shots. From suddenly turning into a headless horsewoman because you had an orgasm, shitting out turtles and god knows what the fuck else, to global-share of one's own shit through cellphones and many other things, YNOK gives sick-minded something we crave: sheer madness. Art is nothing exceptional, but passable nonetheless. Mind you that it's extremely graphic: it shows tits, dicks, vaginas and asses left and right (with mild censoring), but that's honestly nothing compared to the rest of the shit it subjects you to. If you just want to sit back, relax and dive into the genuine insanity that Yume no Omocha Koujou is, make sure you aren't eating anything. That's all.
