What a whacky story we got here. NGL, I'm not expecting the ending there. Well, it was somewhat predictable but I thought it would go a different direction. Anyway tho, I'm just going to say it's a very well-paced one-shot with a very interesting story. Idk if any other manga has this plot other than Magilumiere, but seeing more and more "magical girls is for work" settings is kind of fresh, I think. Most of the time, as far as I know, magical girls usually are middle schoolers or high schoolers. Sure it's fun to make such a high-spirited young girl do hero stuff, but like, themilf tho. Can we get one of those, please? A milf magical girl would be pretty awesome. Overall I give this one-shot solid 8/10.
The truth behind those dreamy Magical Girls and Pretty Guardians who inspire children's dreams...?! A new tale of a Pretty Guardian that's both realistic AND totally awesome! (Source: MANGA Plus)
What starts as an edgy flip on the magical girl genre, becomes a heartfelt tale about the strenuous lifestyle of a superhero and the realization of that from the perspective of a young fangirl. This story gets straight to the point, but still offers downtime to enjoy and empathize with its two main characters and their dynamic. With great art and a interesting diversion from the norm, Pretty Guardian Stress may leave you wishing it was longer than just a one-shot. Would definitely recommend for those who are fans of the recent darker takes on superheroes in western media, as well as those looking forsome very light shock value humour.
This manga is a funny twist on the magical girl genre. Although it's not the first time we see a twist on this trope, I think Bishoujo Senshi Stress stands on its own. We focus on a cynical and edgy magical girl who seems to hate his role in the world. At first, you may think she's just like that without a reason, however, the manga makes it clear how and why she became like that, and you get to empathize with her. Story is short, but I don't feel that's something bad. It's long enough to make its point. If you enjoy the magical girl genre, Irecommend this one-shot.
