I've read a fair bit of manga myself, with a lot of unusually long titles, and a lot of the time I've been left disappointed, sometimes not even surprised, at how god awful it was. and I can assure you that this definitely isn't one of them. It's the type of manga that would bring me down to tears simply because it is absolute cinema. If this manga was an NBA player, it would be prime Tracy McGrady. The word "Masterpiece" doesn't even begin to describe it. The full-page spreads, the art, the plot, the edging and climax, even the dialogue, all of it; absolute cinema. Iactually have nothing to say after this because the manga left me so damn speechless. (ok a bit too much glaze yikes)
Yasutaka Iijima, the glasses boy in the corner of the class, has a hard time with Ema Kitaoka, a gal in the same class at high school. However, after coming into contact with her at a third-year camp, he discovers she is entirely different than he thought. They start to talk to each other outside of school. This manga follows the classic trope of popular girl X loner guy. What makes it pretty different is how it tackles the setup. Without going too deep to avoid potential spoilers I'd describe this story to be much more realistic than other similar mangas, and also makes you think more about how communication is essential to maintain relationships with people around you, which I personally like in mangas (like, when they make you think about real stuff). If you hate misunderstandings then this might not be for you, but personally I think that despite being such a common and annoying trope, it was done pretty wellin this manga, and is basically the whole point of it. And thanks to it being so realistic, you can't really tell how the manga will end. That being said, there is much more to this manga than just a misunderstanding, and the characters and their interactions are well written. Though here I must say that most of the side characters weren't really memorable, partially because they didn't even have enough screentime (is it still called screentime if it's manga?). I can't promise you a 11/10 masterpiece, but you should give this manga a shot. It's short enough that you won't get tired of it even if you don't like it THAT much, and it is a really good appetizer inbetween two less serious, longer series.
I just finished this manga, it made feel the same anxiety i felt when i finished highschool. Then i remembered the enthousiasm i had for the future. Right now im job hunting and finishing college. For me it is a reminder of the moments i lived during this period of unvertainity and the feelings i felt at that time. Even if objectively its not that good i love the feelings it made me feel. Almost crying right now, damn life moves so fast. Good luck for all the people living moments of uncertainty like this, you got it ! The interactions did feel organic, like youcould almost tell me it was my hs i wouldnt get surprised. The start was very sweet, the struggles felt human annoying human i could argue. The trope is well mastered. The ending bittersweet, represented grealty the feeling we feel at the end of highschool. Everything is coherent for me.
