With romance, supernatural and light mystery as core features, this manga will feel very familiar to people who enjoy reading manga to kill time and aren't looking for something ambitious or standout. Story: The story starts off with an ominous message followed by a fluffy romance setup between childhood friends Tsubaki and Sakuya. Nothing new, but there are bits of mystery and foreshadowing dropped in in contrast to the lighthearted scenes of friendship. We are quickly introduced to the existence of deities that manifest themselves through people and from thereon, the story focuses on the interactions between between people and the supernatural. The story is notunique but does its job to enable the progression of romance. Characters: The protagonist Tsubaki is altruistic, timid and has a predisposition for bad luck. A lot of his interactions are repetitive and predictable, but He fulfills his purpose as being a wholesome romance protag. Tsubaki's childhood friend, Sakuya, is idealized in her appearance and her talent in academics and athletics. Definitely not original at all, but adequate for the purposes of romance fluff. Also slightly yandere (pog). The side characters are either jealous or friendly and do not play a major roll in the story. Art: The author has a really nice style that consists of elegant line art and minimalist shading that creates a very warm but ethereal appearance. The character designs are all unique and very clean. The art is the best aspect of this manga. Conclusion: Byakuda no Hanamuko has a very conventional and simple story with beautiful art. Definitely recommend for someone who is looking for a fluffy romance manga. Overall Rating: 10/10! I read manga as a coping mechanism, wooooo!!!!
A white snake who is a divine messenger and a childhood friend with a mystery. Entangled obsessions in a Japanese-style fantasy. Tsubaki, a high school student with a predisposition for bad luck, has a one-sided love for his childhood friend Sakuyo, who is both beautiful and talented. Then, one day while leaving school, they are randomly attacked on the street. In the ancient capital Kyoto, a love story defying fate unfolds. (Source: Akita Shoten, translated)
